2009 UNI Schedule
2009 UNI Schedule
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa's 2009 football schedule has been finalized by UNI Director of Athletics Troy Dannen. The Panthers will play six home games in 2009 and open the season Sept. 5 at Iowa.
For the second time in as many regular seasons, UNI will play six games in the UNI-Dome. UNI has posted a mark of 168-42-1 for a .799 winning percentage and went 8-1 last season, including postseason games, in the UNI-Dome. UNI is coming off a 12-3 season that saw the Panthers advance to the NCAA FCS Playoff semifinals. UNI also won back-to-back league titles for the first time since 1995 and 1996 last season.
The Panthers will open the 2009 season at Kinnick Stadium when they kickoff against the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sept. 5. Iowa finished the 2008 season ranked No. 20 in the national polls. In 2008, the Hawks finished the season 9-4 overall and defeated South Carolina in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1, 31-10. This will be the 15th meeting between UNI and Iowa on the gridiron and first matchup since the 2005 season when the Hawkeyes scored 45-21 win at Kinnick Stadium.
UNI will begin UNI-Dome play on Sept. 12 when the University of South Dakota returns for the second straight season. The Panthers scored a 24-13 victory over the Coyotes in front of 12,904 fans on Sept. 6. USD finished the 2008 season with 6-5 overall record. The Coyotes also went 1-2 in its first season of playing in the Great West Football Conference.
The Panthers will host the St. Francis (Pa.) University Red Flash on Sept. 19 in the UNI-Dome. It will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the football field. St. Francis is a member of the Northeast Conference and posted a winless 0-11 mark in 2008.
UNI will open up Missouri Valley Football Conference action Sept. 26 at Missouri State. The Panthers have won three straight and nine of the last 10 matchups with the Bears, including a 42-0 win in 2008. Missouri State went 4-7 in 2008.
Family Weekend is set for Oct. 3 when the Panthers will play host to the Indiana State Sycamores. UNI tallied a 28-0 win over Indiana State in 2008. The Sycamores will enter the 2008 season having lost 26 straight games.
UNI will make its first trip to Fargo, N.D., since the 1982 season and will play its first-ever game in the Fargodome on Oct. 10 when the Panthers take on the North Dakota State University Bison. UNI registered a 23-13 victory over NDSU in the UNI-Dome in 2008. The Bison finished its first season in the MVFC with a 6-5 overall record. UNI leads the all-time series with NDSU, 23-18.
The Panthers' annual Homecoming game will be held Oct. 17 against the Southern Illinois University Salukis. Since 1920, UNI has recorded a mark of 57-23-7 in Homecoming games. The Panthers have won four Homecoming games in a row and 17 of the past 20. SIU posted a mark of 9-3 in 2008 and shared the league title with UNI.
UNI will travel to South Dakota State University on Oct. 24 to take on the Jackrabbits in Brookings, S.D. The Panthers have won three straight against the Jacks since resuming the series in 2006. Prior to 2006, UNI and SDSU had met on an annual basis from 1935-1979. The Jackrabbits finished the 2008 season with a 7-5 mark, which included a 34-20 loss to the Panthers in the UNI-Dome.
Following a bye week on Oct. 31, UNI will entertain the Youngstown State University Penguins on Nov. 7 in the UNI-Dome. The Panthers have won eight straight games against the Penguins, including a 21-20 win in 2008. YSU posted a 4-8 overall mark this past season.

UNI will close the 2009 regular season with a tilt at Illinois State on Nov. 21. The Panthers have won five of the last six encounters with the Redbirds, who will be led by first-year head coach Brock Spack in 2009. Illinois State completed the 2008 campaign with an overall record of 3-8.

Has anybody heard when they will announce season tickets prices? There was talk that our new AD was trying to get them lowered.

Usually announced in March or April. From what I can tell it will go down to $89 or $99 with an extreme outside shot at $79.HI54UNI wrote:Has anybody heard when they will announce season tickets prices? There was talk that our new AD was trying to get them lowered.

It has GOT to be tough to to 0-11 in the NEC.

I think there will be a drop, but prices that low might be for PSC members.clenz wrote:Usually announced in March or April. Re: 2009 UNI Schedule
I was hoping for Dayton or San Diego. St Francis will be just as easy, but I'm sure they're posters aren't over estimating their abilities.
Re: 2009 UNI Schedule
From what I can tell at work they will be $99 per ticket. John Gogola, Stacy Harris, Molly Hackenmiller (all in the ticket office), and Troy are working very hard to get them as low as possible but still keep the revenue. I haven't heard any exact prices yet, because they are having weekly meetings and trying to get it all figured out still.pantherrob82 wrote:I think there will be a drop, but prices that low might be for PSC members.clenz wrote: Usually announced in March or April. Also, FWIW, I know for a fact that Dannon, Farley, and the head of Dome Operations (his name slips my mind right nwo), met twice for about 2 hours each time with Field Turf reps about getting it installed for this season, if not next season at the latest.

Re: 2009 UNI Schedule
$99 would be great. I think there's something psychological to people keeping it under the $100 mark. At $99 I would probably buy an extra seat just for some extra elbow room.clenz wrote:From what I can tell at work they will be $99 per ticket. Re: 2009 UNI Schedule
Kudos to St. Francis - at least they are scheduling up.
Its going to be ugly though. Albany was up 21-0 after the first three possessions against St. Francis this year - then it rained 3 inches in an hour and Coach Ford pulled everyone to avoid getting hurt on a muddy field.
