Who out there is a Missiouri Valley Football fan? Anyone interested in speculating on the prospects of Illinois State in 2010?

Mainly, I dont see ISU hanging with SDS or SIU this year, and I also dont see the redbirds beating Northwestern this year.

Re: MVC Football 2010
ISU is going to make noise and they are my upset pick to win the MVC.
SIU has a tough stretch, @YSU, @ISU, UNI, SDSU. I believe the MVC will be a dogfight this year, with YSU, ISU, and MSU all being capable of knocking off SDSU, UNI, or SIU.

Re: MVC Football 2010
My top three to make the playoffs are:
1. SDSU: Well coached with great football players for their system. The only thing holding back this year is their brutal schedule with road games at Nebraska, Delaware, Southern Illinois, and Northern Iowa. If they can get through that stretch with 2 or less losses, I think they can win it all this season. 9-2 season, conference champs.
2. SIU: They dominated the league in the mid-to-late 2000s and will look to continue that dominance as we start the 2010s... They got a great team across the board and may have the most depth at every position as you will see in the league, hence their sustained dominance. Love these guys to go 9-2 on the year and make a run in the playoffs.
3. MSU: Team that has yet to prove they can get over the hump, but after seeing them handle the crowd and the pressure of winning in Youngstown, I really like these guys this year. Kirby is a hell of a quarterback and they got some quality receivers too. Their defense looked tremendous against YSU as well. 8-3 season and finally in the playoffs.
Then from there:
Tie-4th. YSU: Landed transfer QB from Purdue. Loaded at RB. Experience on defense. Will improve on 6-5 season last year and go 7-4 under new coach Eric Wolford. Watch for them to quickly become a power come 2012 with a great shot at taking the MVFC title with the new coaches recruits (who are far far better than what we saw under Heacock).
Tie-4th. UNI: Always strong, but I just don't see them reloading as quickly as some publications are claiming. Can they compete against everyone in the league, without a doubt, but I just don't see them getting more than 7 wins on the year.
6. ILSU: Most YSU fans are not sold on ILSU because they looked horrible when they came to play a 4-5 YSU team last November, losing 30-18. Now I know they looked good in other games, but from what I saw, they will be average once again and go 6-5 on the year. Yes they got a ton of transfers and I may very well be wrong, but I am not sold on them at all.
7. NDSU: Not sold on them at all. I do not see them being a threat at all this year with their bad defense. They got some promise on offense, but until their defense shows me something, they will be a bottom feeder in the league. 4-5 wins.
8. INSU: Like to see them win a few games this year, probably around 3, which is good by their standards. Got a few nice athletes and may quietly be getting things together. Will they be a playoff threat in the next few years, probably not, but they won't go on any 30-40 game losing streaks anytime soon.
9. WIU: Can't say I see much in these guys this year. They were terrible last year and should remain terrible this year. Not sure the administration has things going in the right direction in Macomb.

The champ will not go undefeated and there could be three of them with two conference losses.

It sort of feels like a year where you could have a 3 way tie for first. Nobody seems to be really great this year, but everyone is solid. SIU, UNI, SDSU, ISU, and maybe YSU could all finish at the top in any order. I don't see MSU being a contender at all.

Agreed; 7th place looks to be home (again) for the still-need-a-little-more-seasoning-at-this-level Bison.
1) ISU
2) SIU
3) SDSU
4) UNI
5) YSU
6) MSU
7) NDSU
8) ISU
9) WIU
The top 6 are an "any given saturday" situation where up to any three of them could be the MVC co-champs.
None of the cellar dwellers will win more than 2 conference games.

9. WIU
I think SIU loses 2 in conference this year(ISU-R and SDSU or MSU), somehow, while SDSU loses 1 in conf.(Might be to SIU, but it'll be State's only conference loss). SDSU is pretty much the same team as last year, except with a more experienced QB now. SIU lost Deji, I don't think that is as easy to fill that hole as it sounds.
I think MSU puts it together just a tad bit better than the rest. I would have dropped NDSU down to 9, but that would be silly. I'm sure they'll win 2 conference games. If they don't? My guess is Fargo will tear itself apart with riots.

It would probably mean a coaching change more than anything. Good to see SDSU has some rabid fans compared to the Blue Hare's we've come to expect.Theee Catrabbit wrote:I would have dropped NDSU down to 9, but that would be silly.
