"Hofher [UD's OC], who came to Delaware in 2009 and did not coach Flacco, cannot compliment Devlin enough on his intelligence and "football aptitude," which is reflected mostly in his decision-making ability. Flacco frequently received similar praise.
Devlin, 22, has already graduated from Delaware with a finance degree and is now pursuing a master's in finance.
"He understands what he's looking at," Hofher said, "and he understands it quickly."
One observer particularly fond of Devlin is Tubby Raymond, who, as Delaware's coach from 1966-2001, worked directly with all of the era's elite quarterbacks.
"He is a great quarterback," said Raymond, a College Football Hall of Fame member who became the ninth coach to win 300 games. "There's no question about it. He's right in there with all the great quarterbacks that we've had...
...As good as Devlin was last year, Keeler said, "He's so much further ahead now."
Devlin agrees.
"I thought spring practice really went great," he said. "We really got to work on some things that we kind of threw together during the season last year. I think we got a lot better at what we need to get better at. In doing so, we enabled ourselves to put in a lot more complex offense. "
UD's offense should be markedly better than last year. Better (and bigger) OL, deep at WR, another year of experience in the new offense...should be a fun year to be a Hen fan!
