Sorry, just rambling thought that went through my head while reading your post.
It made sense though.
I wouldn't be opposed to Delaware playing a money game. Navy and Maryland don't exactly bring in much more than a home game would. I'd love to see us head to State College one time. Like you said, if you're going to travel outside your already very lucrative home venue, it ought to be to a biggie FBS.

True. The only reason we had 5 in a row with Idaho is that we got 3 to their 2.
Man, if your FBS and you gotta do that then you should rethink the whole idea.

Wyoming went out there two years ago and beat Tennessee with the last Joe Glenn team which only won 3 or 4 that season even if they count the win over NDSU. Take away all the idiots in the puke orange, and the stupid checkered endzones and you have a game.
That is one of the fruitiest programs in the nation.
The first-ever game between the two teams won't bring the biggest payday in Griz history - UT is paying $500,000 plus additional expenses - but it's almost certain to the biggest crowd for a UM game, since Neyland's capacity is 102,038.
How does that $500k stack up against what a sold out home game in Missoula can bring in? I'm not saying $500k isn't a lot of money, it is, but I would think they could have been able to get a little more from an SEC school with a large fan base. (Considering someone on a thread somewhere threw out $500k as a guesstimation as to what a UM home game makes.) Thoughts?

Until Sac (or any other FCS team) has an OOC schedule like the following, calling them whores is more than just a little bit over the top:
@ Arizona
OREGON STATE
@ Fresno State
@ Nebraska
BYE
@ Oregon
CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
Yes, this was technically a I-A (at the time) schedule. But at the time, the Big Sky was rated higher than this conference in the Sagarins. The team involved finished 3-8 (with a win vs Oregon State).
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I've heard UT is also helping with a significant portion of the Griz expenses.

So what does that bump the value of the payday up to?

Like AZ, I have no idea what expenses they're actually paying...but, if it's travel and hotel accommodations, it could bump it up significantly...air travel alone would probably bump it up around 60,000. Hotel accommodations for the entire team (coaches, players, trainers, equipment managers, etc.) ...i'm assuming a 3 night stay, could run around 20 to 30,000. I think it's a pretty good deal for both teams.

Dude. Pass me that bong.
Don't get me wrong - I'll be pulling for Montana - and UT may well suck as of late in the SEC - but they send a half-dozen players to the NFL each year. The bottom rungs on their depth charts are HS AAs and all-staters.
They are big, fast, recruit nationally, and quite ill-tempered, too. And that's just the fans. Neyland is Wa-Griz x 4, then doubled for good measure.
The Griz have a chance, as always, but real it ain't.

WOW. Didn't know that Neyland is growing as we speak. 200,000 is a pretty big football stadium.

Actually, I was conservatively estimating the 'extra-circulars' outside the stadium.
I think you can hear the noise from the band on 'The Hill' from Boone - and we're 3 hours away
If you can make the trip it's well worth it. IMO best venue/fans/spectacle in all of CF (except Appalachian and Montana, of course!)
And I'll promise yah, when it's all said and done, boy, will you ever be sick of 'Rocky Top'
