Re: UNI over KU or ASU over UM?
You need a third option, neither. Both wins were great, both fan bases deserve(d) to gloat, and I wouldn't hold it against if it had been a team other than mine. To steal a quote from Jefferson, "That day we (FCS) were all Mountaineers." I felt the same way Saturday when UNI won (even though it busted it my bracket). I don't think the win has been ruined for either team.
Appalachian State Mountaineers:
National Champions: 2005, 2006, and 2007
Southern Conference Champions: 1986, 1987, 1991, 1995, 1999, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2012
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! WE'RE GONNA SHOUT IT! NOTHING'S HOTTER THAN A-S-U!

Re: UNI over KU or ASU over UM?
UNI is probably downplayed a touch by the fact that there are still 3 teams lower seeded than them left in the sweet 16. And, now that I look at it, if you go completely by seed differences, the 9-1, 10-2, 11-3, and 12-4 knock-offs were all about same level of upsets. This way this tournament is going, UNI will be find themselves out of the role of underdog before too long!
Those are just random observations. I still think comparing ASU v UM to UNI v KU is equivalent to deciding whether sidewalks are better than paper towels.

Thread-killer extraordinaire.

Do you feel the same when Villanova or Georgetown advance?ASUMountaineer wrote:You need a third option, neither. Difference being Nova and Georgetown are Kansas just on the East coast.89Hen wrote:Do you feel the same when Villanova or Georgetown advance?ASUMountaineer wrote:You need a third option, neither. I wish I still had the article saved but during the 2008-2009 season UNI spend about $20K per player for the entire season. Kansas, during the same time frame, spent about $98,500 per player.
I would bet Georgetown and Nova are pretty close to that.
The only reason those two schools are FCS is so that they don't have to pay as much to have football.

That may be, but they still are I-AA's. Everyone here accepted Villanova's win over Temple as a I-AA win.clenz wrote:The only reason those two schools are FCS is so that they don't have to pay as much to have football.
BTW
UNI spend $19,000 per basketball member
ASU spends $7,100 per football member
Their win is more impressive.

Not in the NCAA tournament, as they've won national championships at the highest level (in basketball) and are ranked in the top 25 regularly (it's not an upset when they win anymore, as it is for UNI this year and was for ASU in 2007). However, in football, when Nova or G'town play an FBS team, I'd feel the same way.89Hen wrote:Do you feel the same when Villanova or Georgetown advance?ASUMountaineer wrote:You need a third option, neither. So we shouldn't revel in any sporting win by one of our I-AA bretheren unless they normally suck at that sport. You hear that UND hockey fans?ASUMountaineer wrote:Not in the NCAA tournament, as they've won national championships at the highest level (in basketball) and are ranked in the top 25 regularly (it's not an upset when they win anymore, as it is for UNI this year and was for ASU in 2007). Re: UNI over KU or ASU over UM?
How is it most annoying. Again, I would point out that almost all the posts pertaining to the win are made by non-UNI posterswideright82 wrote:UNI... hands down.

I answer your question with a question. What the fuck does that have to do with anything?

Why should he justify his opinion? All you asked for was which, not why...clenz wrote:How is it most annoying. Again, I would point out that almost all the posts pertaining to the win are made by non-UNI posterswideright82 wrote:UNI... hands down.

Re: UNI over KU or ASU over UM?
As a homer gotta say the App State victory over MIchigan at the Big House was the bigger upset and yeah we Apps ran with it for quite a while as did the National Media because it is the only time an FCS team had upset a ranked FBS opponent. Say what you will, that win benefitted every program in FCS as it gave us some needed exposure and recognition. The UNI win over Kansas is huge but with same number of schollarships, netural floor, etc. will not be considered as big an upset and UNI should have been ranked prior to that game. That game also benefits mid-majors to some extent, much like Davidson George Mason and others in the past. It's only been a week so give the UNI fans a chance to brag, besides they still have some "fish to fry" and I for one hope they go all the way.
Kick some more butt UNI!! (The UNI fans I met at the 2005 FCS National Championship game in Chatty were first rate group of people).
