The Lady Toppers will be one of the Top 8 seeds in the Sun Belt Softball tournament beginning Wed. 5/6/09!

WKU earned the 3 seed with a (14 - 9) conference record as they will take on South Alabama in the Round 1 Wed afternoon at 3:00 PM CST. This is a double elimination tournament so good luck Lady Tops! The rest of the tournament teams are:

(1) Louisiana-Lafayette (18 - 5) vs. (8) Louisiana-Monroe (7 - 15)
(4) Florida International (13 - 11) vs. (5) North Texas (11 - 12)
(3) Western Kentucky (14 - 9) vs. (6) South Alabama (10 - 12)
(2) Troy (15 - 8) vs. (7) Florida Atlantic (10 - 13)

Update on the Sun Belt Softball Tournament.

Wednesday: LOTS of upsets on this day as 3 out of the 4 top seeds lose. Louisiana-Lafayette, Troy, and WKU lost their games, with Florida International being the lone winner. Louisiana-Lafayette lost to Louisiana-Monroe 1 - 0, South Alabama beats WKU 6 - 1, and Florida Atlantic stops Troy 6 - 4.

Thursday: North Texas is eliminated by Louisiana-Lafayette 8 - 3, WKU eliminates Troy 6 - 2, FIU continues their winning streak in the conference with a 10 - 2 victory over Louisiana-Monroe, Florida Atlantic beats South Alabama 7 - 1

Friday: Louisiana-Lafayette eliminates Louisiana-Monroe 9 - 1, WKU eliminates South Alabama with a 3 - 1 victory. Louisiana-Lafayette wins another game by blanking Florida International 3 - 0, and WKU avoids elimination by beating Florida Atlantic 6 - 0

Saturday: These same four teams play each other for the right to play in the SBC Championship game.

(3) Western Kentucky vs. (7) Florida Atlantic after the 1st game!

If WKU defeats Florida Atlantic they will play for the championship at 3:00 PM CST. If The Lady Toppers win this will be their 1st ever Sun Belt Championship. This will be another sport that Toppers have won a championship in.

Heartbreak for WKU (35 - 19) as they lost to Florida Atlantic on a bloop single in the bottom of the 7th to score the winning run.

Louisiana-Lafayette defeats Florida International 8 - 0 to advance to the championship game. The Ragin' Cajuns are going for their 2nd consecutive Sun Belt Championship and their 9th in 10 years.

Louisiana-Lafayette wins the Sun Belt Softball Championship after losing the first game. They defeated Florida Atlantic 8 - 3 to capture their 9th championship in 10 years! Maybe WKU can be in the at-large field. They do have a decent record and finished 3rd in the regular season, but it is highly unlikely so great season Lady Tops!
