Crap Bowl

Marshall (WV) withdrew from the Independence Bowl against Army because they didn't think they'd have enough players to safely play the game after a bunch jumped in the portal. They have been replaced by 5-7 LA Tech, the first 5-7 school on the APR List.
This is bogus. An appropriate FCS school should get the nod instead, given that FCS is technically D-I. Strictly among those not in the playoffs, that would leave a choice of Delaware (9-2) and SW MO State (8-4), not eligible for the playoffs because of their FBS transition, and NC Central (8-3). However, since the game doesn't take place for about two weeks or so, I think the pool should be expanded to include every playoff team not making the final. That would allow for some outstanding matchups eager for a scalp against stupid Army: UC Davis, Incarnate Word, and Mercer (all 11-2), Idaho and Richmond (both 10-3), IL State and Villanova (both 10-4), TN State and Lehigh (both 9-4), and TN-Martin, Montana, and Abilene Christian (all 9-5), plus the SF losers (all of whom are currently 10-2 or better). Any of those would easily be a better draw than a 5-7 G5. SMH....
