2022 NCAA Baseball Regionals

Post by Baldy »

Regionals begin on Friday.

Tennessee (53-7) is the overall #1 seed and finished as the regular season and tournament champs in the SEC. They are clearly the most dominant team in the nation this season.

More importantly, Georgia Southern (40-18) is the #16 national seed and is the #1 seed in it's regional in Statesboro with #2 Notre Dame, #3 Texas Tech, and #4 UNCG.

Probably should have been more clear. GSU #1, Notre Dame #2, TTU #3, and UNCG #4 are the seedings for the Statesboro Regional.

You're fine. I came across the SI story for the whole DI playoffs and I was looking for somewhere to put it. if anything, I should have listed the top seeds for each region separately with a link to the story. My bad.

Solid year for the Eagles. Congrats.
The Committee had some tough decisions to make after 6 auto-bids were stolen over the final weekend.
And they caused some controversy by suddenly focusing on non-conference schedules in a year after coming out of the COVID epidemic where teams made schedules that limited travel to save money and reduce COVID risk.

What helped us out was having the 3rd toughest non-conference schedule in the nation this year.

Well sure. You guys were certainly a lock. But teams like Mississippi, NC State, Grand Canyon, Liberty, UTSA, Clemson, Rutgers, and Old Dominion were left wondering how things would shake out once the Committee applied their normal focuses on each team's credentials. But everyone was somewhat surprised when the Committee said the focus, or determining factor, was non-conference scheduling. This was not a focus in the past. After all, it is rolled up into the RPI just like record on the road is. Normally they will say something like "last 15 games" as a determining factor.
And the problem with non-conference scheduling as a focus is that we are in a pandemic. Many teams changed course in how they normally scheduled without any clue the Committee would suddenly change.

It’s great that a few Sunbelt teams are in it. Good luck, GSU. Coastal fell to UVA yesterday and has an elimination game coming up. I’m hoping Coppin State isn’t a problem.

Va Tech (#4) also out. Stanford (#2) and Oregon State (#3) still alive, but both need to win Monday to advance.

This feels like the least exciting CWS I can remember. Until last night's game between Arkansas and Mississippi, every game has not been all that competitive.
