I know people give the Sun Belt shit but C-USA isn't any better.
To me, it's tough to compare any team that isn't in the Big10, SEC, ACC, PAC-12, etc... Out of the 10 FBS conferences, Sun Belt is usually # 8, followed by C-USA and MAC. So this should be a step up for them.

Which begs the question I wondered for years.
Are the "Upstate" and "Lowcountry" terms a reference to latitude or elevation?
I have heard both answers. I tend to believe elevation, but I really don't know.

The Lowcountry of SC is understood to start in Georgetown and runs down to Beaufort/Hilton Head. South of that, the area down past Savannah through the GA sea islands is known as the Coastal Empire.CAA Flagship wrote:Which begs the question I wondered for years.

Between Georgetown north to the NC border is known as ... I dunno what they call it nobody from the Lowcountry goes there. Might get fleas

No. It’s the watershed of the Pee Dee river and the lands of the Pee Dee Indians.UNI88 wrote:And the PeeDee is high elevation?Ibanez wrote: No. Conway is in the PeeDee

It’s still coastal but the coastal plains of SC is split into Pee Dee and Low Country.
The middle of the state is the Piedmont or mid-lands. And then the NW part of the state is the upstate.
I live just over the NC border from Charlottes and I’m in the Piedmont.

I guess both are correct. We're at about 900' elevation here.CAA Flagship wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 8:44 amWhich begs the question I wondered for years.

It's more geographic and relation to the Mountains, Fall Line and Atlantic Ocean.ASUG8 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 4:59 amI guess both are correct. We're at about 900' elevation here.CAA Flagship wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 8:44 am

The Low Country, for example, was originally the counties between the Savannah and Ashley Rivers (and I guess now the Waccamaw to include G-town) and below the Fall Line (sandhills that cross the middle part of the state.) The Upcountry (or Upstate), IIRC from SC history classes, evolved from the counties that comprise of that NW part of the state.
Part of the confusion is that we have Geographic as well as Cultural regions but typically you really only hear 3 referenced - Low Country (Coastal Zone, Inner and Outer Coastal Plains), Midlands (Sand Hills and Piedmont) and Upstate (Blue Ridge or Mountains Zone. This is the traditionally UpCountry). Nobody talks about the Inner or Outer coastal plain. Piedmont and Midlands are sometimes used interchangeably but it's typically Midlands. It's always called the Upstate. I've never once heard a person refer to the Blue Ridge or Mountains Zone. And it's always the Low Country, regardless if you're in land locked Dorchester/Berkeley or in Charleston or Jasper counties.

Re: Sun Belt 2021 Thread
Close. The Coastal Empire is more or less the Savanna Metro Area, south to include Bryan and Liberty Counties. The Brunswick area from McIntosh County south to the Florida border is called the Golden Isles. Northern Florida is called the First Coast...after that I DGAF.CID1990 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 9:30 amThe Lowcountry of SC is understood to start in Georgetown and runs down to Beaufort/Hilton Head. Well they'd be foolish to join the dumpster fire that is C-USA with a Sun Belt bid available so it's the Belt or stay put.

In this day and age of thinned skinned people, can one still refer to the Sun Belt as the Sun Blech?
