Minnesota nearly and should have lost to South Dakota St and Georgia Southern, and took 2 OT's to beat Fresno St.
Went on to a New Years Bowl game and beat Auburn. Who'd of Thunk.

Tennessee stared the season with a loss to Georgia State and were 2-5.

They now have the second longest win streak in the P5 behind LSU.

To me the thing is to get as close as you can to having each team control its own destiny so that polls, rankings, power ratings, opinions don't matter.

They control their own destiny now to some extent. Memphis played Ole Miss, Southern, South Alabama and UL Monroe OOC. Now, they can't control that Ole Miss sucked this year, but they played the 49th hardest schedule. Sorry.

There is nothing a non power 5 team can do to get its schedule strength rating near the top.

I can't remember which SOS ranking I used, but I found one where you can go back to any date so you can exclude the bowl games (makes more sense obviously to only look at regular season). Here are the top ranked G5 teams:

42. Tulsa (Michigan State, San Jose State, Oklahoma State, Wyoming)
43. Cincinnati (UCLA, Ohio State, Miami OH, Marshall)
46. Houston (Oklahoma, Prairie View, Washington State, North Texas)
47. Tulane (FIU, Miss St, Missouri State, Army)
56. Navy (Holy Cross, Air Force, Notre Dame, Army)
60. Central Florida (FAMU, FAU, Stanford, Pitt)
62. Memphis (Ole Miss, Southern, South Alabama, UL Monroe)

So yes, maybe they can't crack the top 30-35 schedules, but they can certainly do better than 62. And the folks pointing to P5 schools not playing G5 schools, how do you explain the above games?
