The AD has confirmed there will be a program (or programs) cut after he consults with the administration...but there's no confirmation on which sports are on the chopping block...

Baseball supporters believe their sport will be targeted...

baseball is the easiest to get rid of. That sucks to see sports teams cut.

Baseball teams are being chopped everywhere - especially in the north.

And its because to remain competitive, the travel costs in the early season are huge...

Our team spends loads of time in Florida or Arizona (they played a three game series against Northwestern in Winter Haven FL and a three game set against Arizona in Tucson to start the year)...That's expensive...

That is what a lot of northern teams face - long roadies to open the year.

The decision has been made...and the cuts come in

Men's and women's skiing...both programs are being reduced to club level...baseball is spared (it's the longest running sport in UMass history, starting in 1877...)

great news. No title IX implications either which is good for football.

I'm interested to see what Albany does. We are looking at a 14% cut in general funding from the State. That cut will be felt proporationally by all UA departments, including athletics.

What hasn't been publicized is whether the cuts will be spread proportionally amongst sports or whether some will get the brunt of it. We don't have a ton of sports that can take a major cut and survive (unless football loses scholarships which isn't likely).
