Embarrassing attendance

Tues night's MAC game, Buffalo @ Miami of OH, start of 2nd qtr...
Image

Box xcore shows attendance at 9895. That's either a typo with a 9 added to the front, or they're counting everyone x 10.

Worst I have ever seen for a I-A game...

the 9895 probably includes all season tickets, and any other tickets sold but not used.

Yet another reason why the MAC bottomfeeders are the worst of all FBS, along with the SBC bottomfeeders... they're just merely FCS/D-II caliber squads... :ohno:

I can start pulling attendance pictures from every fcs program in the nation with the exception of 4 or 5...

Also from every fbs program except about 15 of them

There was an article in the Phila Inquirer yesterday. Penn State attendance is down every year since 2007, well before the scandal.

Declining attendance is a nationwide phenomenon in just about every sport. Prices keep going up, and the economy keeps sucking. Something had to give.

It's capitalism though. NASCAR has taken a huge dive in attendance and prices are coming back down. I'm familiar with Dover Downs because we have season tickets. Just got a notice that our tickets went down $15 each for 2014. There are also sections with $30 tickets now.

With 70 inch HD tv's being affordable with surround sound there's very little reason to spend 40-200 on a ticket, fight through traffic getting there, sit through whatever shitty weather there is, and then fight through traffic going home.

Yep. We've had this discussion many times on the UD board. UD has one of the better live HD streaming feeds of every home game and it's free to boot. Combine that with CAA contracts with NBC and Comcast and you can watch almost every UD home game in your living room. Throw in unpopular seat fees and some epic choking the past several seasons and a near 12,000 strong season ticket base in 2008 is down to around 5,000 and still plummeting. :ohno:

Those pictures have no context- in most of them the teams aren't even on the field. Just about any stadium is pretty empty 15 minutes before kickoff.

BTY there were 95k for the PSU-Illinois game. Yes I understand people buy season tix and don't go so there weren't 95k in the stands, but it is still easily a top 10 attendance on any given week.

Is it just me or does that look pretty much sold out? I assume the big empty block are the bands.

I was thinking the same thing. That looks like a decent crowd.

It does look like a decent crowd. But, it looks wayyyyy too red to be a Cal home game.

Why do you think Villanova football chose blue as its color? :coffee:

looking at all the great seats available makes me sick, but i will defend 1 team in the pictures above and that is: UAB. they play at Legion Field in the damn hood of Birmingham. the stadium is on the west side of Birmingham and in a low income area. i wouldn't go either honestly. I've been to the stadium in day time and felt okay about it. if UAB had a small 15-20K stadium on campus that would be cool, but they are pressed for space and why build a stadium on campus (even if they had the space) when you are only getting family, girlfriends that got rejected by bama or auburn players, a few grads, and students that didn't get tickets to the bama or auburn game… poor UAB... Legion Field holds like 90K? majority in that area are Bama or Auburn fans anyway so any support for UAB is good support. they are one of those that would do better in the FCS than FBS, but the dreams for a birth in the Liberty bowl are at an all time high

I can only imagine what some would look like.

Pioneer-Patriot-MEAC pictures would be pretty interesting.

When JMU leaves, and as Delaware continues to decline, CAA attendance probably won't even average 10K a game. Hell, it might not now.

Taking out App State, ODU, and GSU - now that they are gone - the only schools that will draw really well (I'm talking 90%+) every game are Montana, Montana State, North Dakota State, EWU (though pretty easy when the stadium holds less than 9k fixed capacity), and maybe a one or two others

Then there will be schools like UNI, UD, SDSU, and a couple others that no matter how good/bad the team is will fall between 70-90%

Then about 100-110 FCS schools that will always draw complete shit unless they are really damn good but the second a game is lost the crowd disappears again...most of these schools draw less than 50% in stadiums that hold less than 10-12k
