My head says Toby Gerhart, but my heart says Ndamukong Suh. Seriously.

Gerhart or Suh both should win it, but McCoy or Ingram will probably win it, by default like what always happens.

By the way, I voted for Gerhart. I watched him play against USC and Oregon, and this guy is for real!

It should be either Toby or Suh. If it is truly the best player in college football that is the way it will go. It shouldn't be the best player on the best team. I hate that.

Geography may help him. He should get most of the western votes, while the south and midwest votes may be split.

I really thought McCoy would win even though I was hoping Suh would pull the upset and bring it home. This was a solid group of finalists.

People factor in team record in this too... it's the same for any "MVP" award. You don't give it to someone who's team has had a mediocre season but they were awesome (8-4 is ok, but when people get pissy about a 9-3 season, 8-4 is mediocre). Ingram played well all year (minus one game) and was pivotal in his team going undefeated thus far. Gerhart played well all season long, played against weaker defenses and put up better numbers... Gerhart seems better, but I would have voted for Ingram, he sealed the deal with his performance against Florida IMO.


311 attempts for Gerhart vs 249 for Ingram. The TDs are slightly impressive, but having 62 more carries and only 200 more yards isn't. He's a bruising down hill back and will be good on third and short/goal in the NFL, heck didn't the Bus score around 10 TD his final season with under 400 yards?

I wonder how much the no-prior Alabama Heisman winner played a factor?

Probably not a lot... Just sayin, I wasn't aware of it until the actual ceremony. I mean for the football history that Bama has, the number of national titles, you'd figure at least one player from their school had won it. Maybe it's my general ignorance, but I couldn't tell you every school that has and hasn't produced a Heisman winner. I bet there were a lot of voters who didn't know this either.


Gerhart won the Doak Walker award over Ingram if that means anything... if you think regional bias had anything to do with it, then Gerhart made up for it by winning out in the west... I can't find the breakdown without running into a bunch of spam sites, but how did things play out in middle America? The vote was real close in the end, I know that.
