buddy of mine works for a car dealer here in town and says they've been swamped with this...
Pretty sure it's not just you.CID1990 wrote:Somehow I just can't shake the thought that this sounds a lot like a smaller version of enticing people to buy things they cannot afford.
Maybe it's just me.
I hadn't thought of that side of the equation. I might want a new car in the future. How long do you think it will be before some of these almost new automobiles are back on the market?Ursus A. What's cool though is that if some of us get in early enough before a bail out to cover car payments we may get some great deals on some slightly used automobiles.
First payment defaults get hooked on about the 45th day.UNI88 wrote:I hadn't thought of that side of the equation. I might want a new car in the future. I'm betting that an honest effort to make payments will last for close to a year and with job losses and so forth there should be a good supply of slightly used cars with 5-10K on them in a year's time.AZGrizFan wrote:First payment defaults get hooked on about the 45th day.UNI88 wrote:

These MIT guys are some fart smellers. Ah, but what the fuck do they know, right?"As a carbon dioxide policy, this is a terribly wasteful thing to do," said Henry Jacoby, a professor of management and co-director of the Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change at MIT. "The amount of carbon you are saving per federal expenditure is very, very small."
Nice waffle.....you just hate saying Z is correct...Cap'n Cat wrote:Cap'n Cat does not disagree with Z and CID in this, however, will take a wait and see attitude because He is much too intelligent to kneejerk like those azzholes.
Nah, that is what Credit Unions are for.Wedgebuster wrote:So Z, are you saying that these folks are being given loans without collateral, without proof of employment, and/or without regard to application information and credit score??

Humorous waffle, to be clear. Hey, Myself and D1B are the only fvckers here who give credit when an antagonist has a good point. The rest of us, Conk and Donk, haven't that ability, including you, Merle.Col Hogan wrote:Nice waffle.....you just hate saying Z is correct...Cap'n Cat wrote:Cap'n Cat does not disagree with Z and CID in this, however, will take a wait and see attitude because He is much too intelligent to kneejerk like those azzholes.
No you're not. I do it, UNI88 does it, even Appaholic does it to a lesser extent.Cap'n Cat wrote:Humorous waffle, to be clear. point A is largely accurate... however, that was the case before and will be the case after the program... the only thing this program really changes is 1) getting people to turn in their 1988 conversion van and 1994 suburban for a fuel efficient vehicle and 2) by putting 4500 toward their purchase, may lower their monthly payments to where they are sustainable for more people.AZGrizFan wrote:Wow. a) 10-15% of these car "owners" won't make the first payment
b) after a year, these cars will have 75-80K miles on them. Guaranteed.

if you want to have a discussion about foolish lending practices - that's a largely separate topic that exists well outside this program
