i figured someone would start a thread on this but this is obviously a completely different situation than the situation with the Trump thing. Most importantly, there is no evidence that Biden intentionally took the materials nor has Biden resisted returning the materials to the National Archives. Trump OBVIOUSLY took the materials intentionally and OBVIOUSLY resisted returning them. It's unfortunate because it gives Republicans an opportunity to try to deflect from what Trump did. But the two situations are nowhere close to equivalent.

No big deal. He got slapped on the wrist with a feather. It also needs to be noted that he was the first person ever caught stealing documents from the National Archives who never served federal prison time.

I think with the latest news that more classified documents have been found - whether intentional or not - I'd be ok with President Biden facing impeachment. I know the Senate won't convict him, but we can't have former White House officials keep doing this.

I'd also be ok if he is convicted by the Senate. And if it's found to be intentional, he should face criminal charges.

Trump should definitely face criminal charges, however.

The thing is, I don't really see guys like Trump or Biden getting into the nitty gritty of how these boxes get packed and what's going into the boxes. Sure, I get it that they are ultimately responsible since they're in charge, but these things are happening at a much more granular level and I doubt that we're looking a real nefarious doings by Trump or Biden. Heck, these guys are pretty much doddering old men anymore, I don't think they're even capable of the mental acuity to do what some are accusing them of doing.

I'm sure this has been happening for far longer than just Biden and Trump, and I think you or another poster even made the observation that we classify and print out a whole bunch of stuff that either shouldn't be classified or there shouldn't be hard copied of anyway. I'd really wish they would both just walk away. American politics will be far better just from the fact that we aren't saddled with elderly and corrupt politicians such as Trump and Biden. Trump has always been a buffoon, a likely criminal, and a destructive narcissist, and Biden was rejected for the Presidency at least 4 times prior because he was a bumbling career Senator who's claim to fame is breaking the SCOTUS confirmation process. These two are really crappy options and not having either on the ballot in 2024 would be a win for America.

My issue with Trump's situation is that the guy was being asked for months to return the stuff, and he flat out said no (as a private citizen). At least Biden's team is self-reporting, but if it turns the removals were intentional and Biden knew, then pursue charges as well.

edit: I visited the west wing during Obama's last week. It legitimately looked like a normal person moving: boxes everywhere, cluttered hallways, etc. And yeah, obviously it wasn't Obama and Biden personally packing boxes.
