I do not believe Stacey Abrams is a fascist because of her election denials. Fascism is not running amok in the world today, stop fear-mongering and just deal with the real life issues we have in front of us.kalm wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 6:55 amDo you really not see historical parallels to historical and modern fascism?Winterborn wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 2:59 am
I am pretty much the same boat as per the definition of "fascism", where I differ is in the application of using the term (the part that I agree with GF). Historical context is key and one can easily tell who understands that and who is just repeating things they have read but do not understand.
The pearl clutching has been hilarious to watch and what makes it all the better is that they are oblivious to the entire matter.
There are folks running for governorships who literally deny election results and believe they should remain unrecognized or even over-turned.

This is not an R only problem. There is a D running for Governor of Georgia who still denies that she lost the last election. The likely R nominee beat a D candidate in 2016 that still can't accept that she lost. What would she have done if she had been the incumbent when she lost? What about the investigation initiated into her opponent and his campaign by the POTUS that was meant to directly impact the election? What about the first impeachment which was an attempt to overturn a lawful election?kalm wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 6:55 amDo you really not see historical parallels to historical and modern fascism?Winterborn wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 2:59 am

Fascism needs to become HI54UNI's 2nd corollary to Godwin's Law.

Good point. People really just pivoted to calling people fascists once it became trite to just keep calling political opponents Nazi's. So yeah, the corollary fits nicely.

Which begs the question, once everyone is a fascist (as kalm believes Stacey Abrams is, just as the White House Press Secretary is, as the entire GOP is except for Lynne Cheyney, and as most people on this message board are with the exception of kalmie himself), then is there really such a thing as fascism anyway?

Exactly. The "little Boy who cried Wolf" is a good parable about the follies of repeating something that isn't true.

If there was ever the time to hold both sides accountable, it is now. But all I see is just a bunch of blaming and finger pointing that the other side is "evil" and needs to be stopped and "we are the only ones that accomplish that" rhetoric.UNI88 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 7:12 amThis is not an R only problem. Though I can't say I am not enjoying the schadenfreude from when reality starts poking her dainty little claws into the bubbles that all the people have chosen to live in (both sides have their bubble people that are starting to face reality).

There is no accountability because there is no access. The strongest bubble to poke is the one surrounding political insiders and elected officials themselves. The average person lacks the time, energy, and most importantly money to gain access.Winterborn wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 1:42 amIf there was ever the time to hold both sides accountable, it is now. We are reduced to tribalistic stances. It’s like hating an entire fanbase because of the coaching staff or certain troll/homer fans.
Sit down and have a beer with them. We have more in common than we think.
