Uvalde School Shooting

Just seeing this - almost like Sandy Hook all over again. A teacher and 14 elementary school kids killed by an 18 year old shooter. I know there are shootings everyday and kids this young, and younger, are killed everyday, but it doesn't make this any less shocking (and it doesn't make those other killings less tragic either). Kids being killed in an elementary school is unbelievably tragic. When Sandy Hook happened I still had kids in elementary school and my wife still taught at that level. Mine are older now and the wife doesn't teach that age any more but still, shocking.

Saw on the BBC they had the stat from the Gun Violence Archive - mass shootings (any event with a shooting where 4 or more are injured or killed) this year number 215 events between Jan 1st and the middle of May. And obviously there are even much more with less people injured or killed in the same time. I don't have an answer, but something's gotta change. We're in a bad place country-wise right now regarding this.

This is sadly not surprising at all. We are a shitty country right now and getting shittier. You could see it with our ambivalence towards the death rates of covid. Full of self deceit and lost in the different concepts of freedom and rights.

You said we are a shitty country right now and getting shittier. Trump was called every name in the book for calling some 3rd world countries "shithole countries".

The two sound eerily very similar.

I was also thinking that you could see it with the rioting and looting. :coffee:

Do they? :coffee:

Do you think America is a 3rd world country? Do you really think Trumps intent and context were eerily similar to mine?

You sound just like Nancy Pelosi. :kisswink:

Saw a star. 19 students have died in shootings this year. 20 cops have died.

If things get much worse I think we need to consider militarizing students.

I don’t know about this case, but with the Buffalo shooting there are already a NY red flag law that should have stopped this lunatic from purchasing the firearm. You have an 18 yr old who:
-June a yr ago he allegedly said in class that he wanted to commit a murder-suicide after he was asked about his plans after high school graduation. He was taken into custody & to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
-He alledgedly cut the head off a cat.
-He wrote a 180 page manifesto.

How in the hell does that not trigger a red flag?

I hate when these damn guns go out and start shooting people. They're almost as violent as cars.

Maybe pro lifers can take up school shootings as their next pet project.

Like clockwork, before the bodies are even cold, donks pols are beating the ‘gun control’ drum, calling for new laws (as opposed to simply enfocing the ones we already have). So predictable, and pathetic.

Werent you just complaining that Texas doesn't have a red flag law?

No. I was talking about the Buffalo shooting. Their red flag law did no good since they weren’t bothering to enforce it.

I own both. I think we should just ban people.

Biden in his address to the nation a few min in starts talking about the gun lobby, gun control, and claimed mass shootings went down after the so called assault weapons ban went into effect, and tripled after it expired. Biden is literally just making ahit up.

It's worth asking why these things didn't use to happen. Columbine in 1999 was the first real "guy shooting a bunch of people for no real reason other than being mad at the world". Before that I'm not sure there was anything that compares.
