The DSA is a bad look on many levels.

Not only is she a gigantic hypocrite, but when you protest EVERYTHING, you’re in effect protesting nothing. It becomes nothing but white noise. Just an annoyance to be brushed aside. No minds are changed, nobody is influenced, except negatively. They are tone deaf as to the impact of their “protests”.

AOChe and Omar getting arrested.

Why do they have their hands behind their back? Handcuffs? No, they were not handcuffed.

Lol so they’re complete frauds for trying to fake that they were handcuffed..

And OTOH, I’m surprised the Capitol Police don’t handcuff people they arrest for civil disobedience..

Just when you think that MTG and Boebert are going to hog the headlines, Omar steps up to remind us that the Democrats have buffoons in Congress as well.

Yes, it's a worldwide crisis but wildly hyperbolic statements don't help convince fence sitters or skeptics. Does she want to fire up the base or help make a difference?

What do you find hyperbolic about it? The implications are far and wide and the current conditions are ahead of even the doomsayer scientists.

The hottest day in 120,000 years?

From what I can tell, records only go back to 1979.

1979? :suspicious:

Christ, I remember how hot it was 1979.

Instrument readings go back to the 1800’s and we’re quite accurate.

Various extrapolation methods are how you get back further. She’s a politician so yes it could be hyperbolic and probably based on what she and her staff has researched. Regardless, we’re seemingly well past the point of picking nits when it comes to climate.

I know you don’t care for her but you don’t strike me as the “it’s cold in Fargo today so it’s all a hoax” crowd.

I don't think it goes back that far for "global" temperatures. I'll give you 1940.

The planet saw its hottest day on record this week. It’s a record that will be broken again and again
On Monday, the average global temperature reached 17.01 degrees Celsius (62.62 Fahrenheit), the highest in the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction’s data, which goes back to 1979. On Tuesday, it climbed even further, reaching 17.18 degrees Celsius and global temperature remained at this record-high on Wednesday.

The previous record of 16.92 degrees Celsius was set in August 2016.

The European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service confirmed that Monday’s and Tuesday’s global temperatures were also records in its data, which dates back to 1940.
I think it's a serious problem, not a hoax but if you want to convince the skeptics and fence sitters then you need to be credible not hyperbolic. 120,000 years is not credible. Running around like chicken little claiming that this is the hottest it's been in 120,000 years or that we're only x years from a catastrophe is counterproductive. Your not going to convince the MAGAt yahoos but you need to convince the people in the middle and Omar's blather hurts more than it helps.

I also don't want to return to an agrarian society like some illiberals seem to. Good old capitalistic innovation is going to be an important element to any solution.

The middle on a man made event that can destabilize geo politics, increase refugee migration, threat invasive species, national security risks, disease, etc. not to mention storm destruction may not be what’s needed at this point.

But hey…Joe Manchin is in the middle and Biden just gave him a pipeline so..

Humankind (don’t be such a misandrist with “man” made you sexist pig) has contributed to the problem. How much is debatable, some of this may very well be cyclical.

It’s a serious problem, it’s getting worse and the longer we wait the harder it’s going to be to resolve but while life is going to get rougher for millions, the end of humanity is not nigh. Real fixes (not the knee jerk, leftist attempts to hamstring capitalism, development and ultimately western society) will take time. China, India and others need to have the same skin in the game as the west otherwise we’re handing world hegemony to China on a silver platter. I’d rather let Mother Nature take us all down a peg then let the ChiComs force their way on the world.

Let’s get past your mankind and capitalism are killing the planet leftist pablum and focus on solutions.

I don’t believe I mentioned mankind killing the planet or capitalism. Although both obviously contribute.

I’m actually optimistic. Especially if capitalism can be applied to fight pollution and global warming. But the good parts of capitalism will also require saving it from itself.
