The Oddities of a Pariliament-Prime Minister Government

Post by SuperHornet »

Sweden just got their first female Prime Minister in Magdalena Andersson, but she resigned seven hours into office after her government's first budget proposal got shot down in Parliament. She was leading a rather fragile two-party minority government after having served as Finance Minister, but is still interested in leading a one-party government (she's apparently a Social Democrat).

The way this style of government operates (we see it all the time in Britain) puts Washington shenanigans to shame. Wow....

I have no interest in a parliamentarian government here in the US. For all of our warts and issues, I'll take our setup any day over that kind of a setup.

Agreed, GF. The upheaval caused by frequent changes of government can affect EVERYTHING in society....

I don't like the splintering of the politics into so many different groups, and eventually a minority group (by number, not race or class) has power and what results is something that the vast majority didn't want in the first place. The duopoly has its disadvantages, but largely (recent times maybe not so much) it keeps us from swaying too far to either extreme.
