That's like a 40 minute flight, right? When my cousin was assigned to Marine 1, he said they were used for the quick hops (WH to Andrews, Andrews to Dover, White House to Camp David)
Estimated flight time from Dover Air Force Base, Dover-Cheswold, United States to Andrews Air Force Base, Camp Springs, United States is 0 hours 9 minutes under avarage conditions. The flight time calculator assumes an average flight speed for a commercial airliner of 500 mph, which is equivalent to 805 km/hr or 434 knots. Your actual flying time may vary depending on wind speeds or weather conditions.

Yeah, weird they don't use Marine 1 for that trip. I wonder if any one (Air Force 1 vs. Marine 1) is safer for that type of trip.

I wonder if the weather had something to do with them choosing Air Force 1 vs. Marine 1?

I am just curious.

Have never been a helicopter nor have I had a chance to talk to a pilot of one about flying one and the differences. I would assume that outside of high winds and maybe visibility, there would not be much of a difference between the two choices. But that is just a guess.

FWIW, when I saw the clip from the snow, it looked like it was another POTUS plane and not AF1. I just said AF1 because that was what I heard on the report, but it sure did not look like a 747.

My non-expert opinion makes me think high winds are more easily handled in a plane than a helicopter.

All of our questions answered...
A snowstorm in the Washington, D.C., area left U.S. President Joe Biden, as well as other members of his entourage, briefly stuck on a U.S. Air Force C-32A jet (Air Force 2) at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland this morning. Once the President was able to deplane, he had to take a motorcade to the White House since the weather was too severe for 'Marine One' helicopters to fly him there.
Technically it said it was too severe to use the copters from Andrews to the WH, but I imagine the same from Delaware. BTW, they showed the motorcade on TV and it was insane. Easily 30 black SUV's. I've never seen one over 5-10.

Helicopters are much more precarious in high winds. However, airplanes are just as vulnerable when there is a heavy crosswind component on landing and takeoff.

March/April is mine. Better chance of warm temps with freezing/thawing going on. Plus you are more distracted when it is warmer out and forget where you are walking.

March April because that gives enough time for the Dems to kick him off the ballot and replace the doddering old fool.
