 Like it or not, I would have to agree in part that the Communist Manifesto is one of the most influential books/pamphlets/documents in the past 500 or so years. Common Sense, The Wealth of Nations, 1984, The Rights of Man, Democracy in America, Critique of Pure Reason and On the Origin of Species are on the list for sure (at least they should be, IMO).
King James Bible
Art of War

Unless you're specifically talking about political documents/influence....
I was just thinking off the top of my head. The Bible is one for sure (regardless of which heathen version you read).

Capitalism has failed before, leading nations to find alternative economic systems.
I was more curious about what nations had capitalism and now have a different economic system that has improved that country.
Here's the condensed list...

I would argue that while it might not have caused as many revolutions, Wealth of Nations had a greater and more positive impact. :coffee:

Define lib. As in the liberal ideals this nation was founded on?
This nation was founded on classical liberal ideas. I am a classical liberal. Bernie, AOChe, et al are neo liberals. :coffee:

Face it - this country was founded by libs (Abraham Lincoln would be a liberal in today's world).

I don't think JFK would be a a Republican today. His New Frontier, foreign intervention and public service programs alone is anathema to Republican priorities. You think he'd be railing against helping the urban poor and denying Medicare to the elderly today?

Are you kidding? The left has moved so far left they don't even embrace OBAMA at this point.

It's true - it hasn't helped the Cuban people one bit. But I see where I could've been more clear.
You know who else didn't help the Cuban people? The Castros.
Depends on who you ask - the wealthy white conservatives that ran the country like a dictatorship with virtual slavery, or the millions of Afro-Cubans and other poor whose life improved.

No disagreement. I've already explained I'm a capitalist a million times before, but it needs to be reigned in. I'm not a believer of this free hand of the market stuff.
There is literally NO aspect of the American capitalist system that has a "free hand". Millions and millions and millions of pages of regulation would say otherwise.
 And taxes with subsequent loopholes.

Flat tax anyone?

 Capitalism has literally allowed people to get out of poverty and into a better life. I can't imagine where I'd be, being the son of an immigrant and a mechanic in a working class family if America had one of these broke dick Communist/socialist systems Trip and klammy hype up so much. Thank God for capitalism and God bless America. 8-)
We simply have higher expectations for America than you. :kisswink:
Well I'd say I've done pretty good coming from a kid from the hood born into a working class family with no education high than a HS diploma to earn a stem degree and have all my bill paid. If I can do it, anyone can do it. Ain't America great? 8-)

Agree. Care to indulge on some of the ideologies the governments of those past and present immigrants partook in?
