The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire ignited a social media firestorm this week when it called for the legalization of child labor.
"Legalize child labor. Children will learn more on a job site than in public school," the New Hampshire Libertarian Party wrote on Twitter on Monday. "At the very least, the minimum age to work is a states' rights issue. Federal minimum work ages are unconstitutional."
There will never be a sustained (i.e. more than one time in a generation) serious third party candidate at the national level. We have 245 years of history (234 under the current system) that has proven that. Unless we make a major change to the government structure (say, move to UK-style Parliamentarianism) we never will either.Winterborn wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 5:29 am Until that happens, I think there is a better chance of reforming the Republican Party then there is that the LP will be a serious third party candidate at the national level.
I used to disagree with this but after the last 4-8 years, I have come around and while I will not say never, the statistical likelihood of it happening is nil.GannonFan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 6:41 amThere will never be a sustained (i.e. more than one time in a generation) serious third party candidate at the national level. Sure, never is a strong word, but being an engineer, I see it as a curve approaching a limit - it may never technically get there, but it's so close to there and will never deviate from being that close that for all intents and purposes it is never. But I agree, there's a super tiny chance it could not turn out that way. If we change the structure of government we'd get the multiple party system we see elsewhere. I'm not sure I see the value in that.Winterborn wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 6:47 amI used to disagree with this but after the last 4-8 years, I have come around and while I will not say never, the statistical likelihood of it happening is nil.GannonFan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 6:41 am
