More Democratic Hypocrisy

Post by SuperHornet »

AOC is calling the use of the term "surge" in relation to the border crisis the invocation of a "militaristic frame," and claims it's really nothing more than white supremacy.

So it's wrong to use the term there, but OK to use it in reference to the COVID crisis? Which is it, AOC?

Typical liberal hypocrisy....

Now that Trump isn't in the White House and calling him a fascist isn't resonating, the ctrl-left needs another dog-whistle to respond to. Calling everything they disagree with "white supremacist" seems to be the hot fad.

For the left it started out with labeling everyone/thing they didn't agree with (ie most conservatives) NAZI and/or facist. Then they went to 'racist'. Then 'White Privileged'. Now its 'White Supremacist'. If you're on the right, and the far left hasn't called you a white privileged, facist, NAZI, racist, white supremacist yet, then you're probably not doing it right.

I'm not sure I agree with her about the word "surge" being key but even if it is I don't think there's a hypocrisy thing there. It's possible to use surge in one context as a "dog whistle" in the sense she's referring to and use it in another context as simply a description of the situation.

As far as the racism thing goes: I do think there is a racial consciousness thing involved. I do think that the ethnicity of those trying to enter the United States from the South is a factor in some of the rather enthusiastic concern about it. Heck, I know my own brother openly says that concern over how Hispanics are likely to vote in the future if they and/or their children become citizens is a factor in his concern. He's a religious zealot who thinks most of them will vote for the Party of Satan.

Is that kind of like the right labeling everyone they disagree with as things like "Communists" and "Socialists?"

Like selling people of Cuban descent in Florida before the 2020 election that voting for Biden would be like voting in the long term for something like Castro brought in. Pretty damned intellectually dishonest, don't you think?

“Surge”? I’ll give her a surge...:licker:

A little hypersensitive in this case but the greater point of dehumanizing the other is indeed a hallmark of nationalism.

I’d like to think lumping all MAGA as white supremacist is similar.

Or of considering all Christians intolerant bigots. Or is that a hallmark of internationalism?

What do you call a large increase in the number of illegal immigrants trying to enter the country (if that is what happened) without being militaristic, imperialistic or some other description that is considered evil by the ctrl-left?

1). Not all Christians are intolerant bigots. Not all Muslims are terrorists. Not all socialists are Stalins. I think you’re agreeing with me? :?

2). As noted, I’m ok with surge. An alternate might be “significant increase.”

I am agreeing with you.

"Significant increase" sounds benign. Would AOChe and other ctrl-lefters be ok with any description that could be used to scare middle America? They have no problem using racist, white supremacist, fascist, Nazi, Hitler, etc. to describe Trump, MAGAts and conservative causes but they take exception to any terms they consider inflammatory toward their causes.

I was listening to Greeny on the way to work this morning and he said something along the lines of "the thrust of your argument is ..." and I asked myself - is it ok to use the word thrust? Couldn't it be argued that it connotates male privilege and rape? From there I moved on to wondering what other words might they want to "cancel".

We've banned books and demonized words? What's next? Large-scale burnings of offensive books? This time it will be ok because these books truly are offensive (thinks every book burner ever).

Not every Democrat is a Commie. But many national-level Democrats are, and the worst are Pelosi and Newsom. This thread is the first I've heard of the term "ctrl-left," but in THEIR case it certainly fits. They want a police state controlled by Democrats. Again, not every Democrat is like that, but THEY certainly are. And people wonder why we're trying to recall him. He's trying to insinuate that the entire thing is a Republican plot, and indeed much of the funding is coming from Republicans, but if he thinks that ALL of the petition signatures are Republican, he's already been proven wrong, as he has been through court decisions slapping his over-reaching hand on control over churches and schools....

I'm not sure I've ever banned a book and the word that you could argue that I've demonized is retard. I don't like it and don't use it but I don't think I've ever stopped communicating with someone who did. I don't have an issue with an individual who refuses to buy or read a book or doesn't like a word. I do take issue with someone in a leadership position advocating for banning books and demonizing words. That is censorship and no true liberal should support censorship. What is the difference between banning Harry Potter or Dr. Seuss?

Why do we need to try and erase from our collective memory things that we find offensive. Wouldn't it be better to include Peppy Le Pew in Space Jam and use his boorish behavior to demonstrate to young women how to stand up to that type of behavior and to young men how not to behave? Why did Nike cancel the Betty Ross sneakers rather than saying we're taking it back, we're not going to let white supremacists hijack a symbol of our founders and a great woman. What would be worse for those white supremacists? Nike canceling the shoe or Nike selling them with a strong marketing message and African Americans wearing them?
