Zlatan Ibrahimovic to LeBron James: 'Do what you're good at,' stay out of politics
Speaking in an interview for UEFA for Discovery+ in Sweden on Thursday, the outspoken striker said that although he admired James' talent, it's a "mistake" when athletes step out of their lane and get involved socially and politically.

"[LeBron] is phenomenal at what he's doing, but I don't like when people have some kind of status, they go and do politics at the same time," Ibrahimovic said. "Do what you're good at. Do the category you do. I play football because I'm the best at playing football.

LeBron James clapped back at Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the soccer star told him to shut up and stay out of politics
"I will never shut up about things that are wrong. I preach about my people and I preach about equality, social justice, racism, voter suppression — things that go on in our community."
...
James also pointed to comments made by Ibrahimovic in 2018, when he claimed he had suffered "undercover racism" at the hands of the Swedish media because of the fact that he doesn't have a traditional Swedish surname and his parents weren't born in the country. The 39-year-old is the Swedish-born son of a Bosnian father and a Croatian mother.
...
"I speak from a very educated mind. I'm kind of the wrong guy to go at, because I do my homework."

“LeBron James, you’re a Chinese finger puppet”: Colby Covington blasts Lakers star for double standards while talking politics after Zlatan Ibrahimovic rebuke, cites Daryl Morey incident as proof

Covington’s criticism is not off the mark here, sadly. When Daryl Morey tweeted out ‘Free Hong Kong’ in support for his friends in the city, James made a real blunder. At the time, James had made this preposterous statement:

“I believe there are ramifications for others when you don’t think about what you say or tweet. I don’t believe Daryl Morey was educated on the situation at hand, and he spoke. So many people could have been harmed – not only financially but physically, emotionally, spiritually.”

Morey was absolutely a lot more well-versed with the Free Hong Kong movement than James was. For James to come out and criticize someone supporting a democratic movement is quite the double standard here. As they say, injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

I generally ignore celebrities when they spout political opinions. The criticism of the Lebron and the NBA to call out China is spot on. Although maybe they understand the different norms better than I do.

LeBron, like any other citizen, has the right to express his opinion on any issue.

I agree. Lebron has a right and a platform to speak his mind. But Daryl Morey should be able to use his platform as well.

I think Zlatan was a hypocrite to call Lebron out after he was vocal about his experiences in Sweden. I think that Lebron is being a hypocrite when he says "I speak from a very educated mind" after criticizing Morey - "I don’t believe Daryl Morey was educated on the situation at hand".

Daryl Morey on Hong Kong Tweet: ‘I’m very comfortable with what I did'
…Morey had befriended a number of Hong Kong residents while attending business school and had intimate knowledge of the challenges they faced living in a semi-autonomous country. His decision to tweet his support was neither rash nor uninformed, but a conscious effort to express his solidarity for people he knew well.
Sounds like he speaks "from a very educated mind".

Lol. Ali most certainly was NOT inspirational at the time, for the vast majority of Americans. History has been very, very kind to him (and rightly so, I might add)...

Sometimes. People didn't like Tebow because of it, but those same give Carson Wentz a pass.

Activism for human rights (legit, hypocritical, misguided or otherwise) is different than activism for Jesus (legit, hypocritical, misguided, or otherwise).

Huh? What if the human right in question is the freedom of religion, i.e. the freedom to worship Jesus.

That’s not what Warner was preaching for.

He did appear in anti-abortion ads, which is a human right issue.

You can make that argument but that wasn’t the scope of that meme.

I couldn't find a picture of the anti-abortion ad. But he uses his religion and fame.
