We would both make the same case for the establishment Dems. They have more in common with the establishment Reps than they do the extremists in their own party. While we only have 2 major parties, it seems like we really have 3 major political movements: the centrist establishment, the populist right, and the progressive left.
If the populist right can find a leader (or leaders) who are rational and charismatic they will pull union/blue-collar worker and Hispanic support away from the Dems.
And the DC cocktail circuit elitist Dems (The ones who control the party) ignore the working class at their peril.
Pet peeve: ascribing populism to the right wing extremists. Not calling out you, but that’s relatively new labeling and used as a pejorative by too many on the left.

Both Clinton and Obama were actually speaking truth. The extremists ARE deplorable and do cling. Populism used to also coincide with progressivism. It represented farmers and union workers. Average people. The working class. Non-extremist working class folks can be either right or left leaning. They have been disenchranchised by both.

Re: Eating Their Own
Clinton and Obama were talking about the OTHER HALF OF AMERICA. Not just the extremists. Let’s not have revisionist history here. 600 million guns in this country...that’s a SHITLOAD of people clinging to guns. 300 million plus of various religions....also a shitload “clinging” to religion. And the fact they didn’t use the word populist doesn’t make it not appropriate here. The people who Trump represented absolutely were populist. Average people. Farmers. Union workers. Minorities. The working class. He ALSO happened to attract some fringe extremist groups, yes. But the vast majority are salt-of-the-earth people. You only need to drive through Rural Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, etc., to understand that.kalm wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 9:46 amBoth Clinton and Obama were actually speaking truth. Former US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley directly criticized former President Donald Trump for his involvement stoking the US Capitol riot in a new interview, a notable condemnation from someone who is widely viewed as harboring presidential hopes in a party that is still in thrall to Trump.
"We need to acknowledge he let us down," she told Politico magazine in an interview published Friday. "He went down a path he shouldn't have, and we shouldn't have followed him, and we shouldn't have listened to him. And we can't let that ever happen again."

Funny. I can make the same case with establishment Dems.
That’s also what makes Amash and Sasse so appealing to me.
The Republicans, most ripe for cancelling are exactly the same ones that would attract left leaning independent types like me to vote for them. This is partly why I think the Republican Party is in deep shit. Rally around crazy and kick the reasonable ones out.

Halley is your typical establishment conk. She'll get run because she has a vagina and the establishment will circle the wagons around her. The typical Trump supporter has no interest in her.
DeSanits probably has the best resume' given how well FL has done with the China Virus, but he's a white male and pairing him up with a Noem/"enter female conk here/token POC" probably doesn't over come that.

There's a reason for all the "FL is struggling with the China Virus" narratives, and it's not based on the numbers seen. Hell there's even talks of a federal flight ban to FL (is that even legal?) just to make the guy look bad.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 11:22 amDesantis and Noem are 2 at the top of my list.SDHornet wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 11:11 am

Mmmm...I disagree. The FANATICAL Trump supporter has no interest in her. The TYPICAL Trump supporter had little interest in TRUMP, but voted for him because of his policies. If we could have Trump-like policies, WITHOUT the circus surrounding Trump, it’d be perfect.SDHornet wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 11:11 amHalley is your typical establishment conk.
