Glad it's over. Trump is still an asshole. Lets move on.
His acquittal all but assures we won’t be moving on.
It’s officially still the party of Trump and the Dems are still officially the party of the establishment.
I'd argue it was decided to move on the moment the closing argument started and Dems decided to not hear witnesses. Honestly, I don't think most people GAF about the impeachment trial.

Yeah, the left is just moving from TDS to TDW- Trump Derangement Withdrawal.

Dems balked on bringing forward wtinesses because it's a politically-motivated show-trial that reached the end of its political usefulness. Well-deserved acquittal from such a sham trial.
I love all ones where the person is asking, "why would they do this?".
Let's see. The Trump defense team threatened to call Pelosi and DC Mayor, Muriel Bowser, to the stand. Didn't want it to come out they had information the attack was pre-planned AND that Trump had offered 10,000 troops.
His acquittal all but assures we won’t be moving on.
It’s officially still the party of Trump and the party of We're Not Trump.

If Trump was impeached he would of been a martyr to some and villian to others by not being impeached. Whether or not he set out to change American politics, he has done so. Even if it just influenced the grassroots in showing them how little Politicians care what they think. His greatest accomplishment might be that he wore off what little bit of veneer was left on DC cronyism to the American people, now whether or not the majority of people see what DC has become is another matter but the truth is there if people want to look.
Despite Trump's shortcomings he has become the defining factor in both major political parties. One party has quibbles about trying to distance themselves from his popularity/brand while trying to use it to maintain/strengthen their base, while the other tries to use the negative emotions that he invokes to further their own goals but in the process they wind up tying their own political future to his name and the emotion it invokes.
Trump and/or the emotions he has invoked will define politics for at least the next 4 years and probably until he is either dead or another polarizing figure/event takes place. To assume that the impeachment (or lack thereof) is going to be the end of his involvement in politics is laughable. He will be involved even if it is just people digging up his name (and the emotions it invokes in some) to further their own agenda.

The truth may be there, but people (especially the left) have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they do NOT want to look. That’s why you still have people out there (and on this board) talking about how all Trump supporters are “terrorists” who attempted to overthrow the government...they truly believe THEIR side of government is benevolent and looking out for them....to not be able to see the truth after what has transpired the past four years is truly frightening. That 52% of the public could be that blind is really a scary thing.
Next election, all those DC cronies will get reelected, and Trump will still be a racist, fascist, sexist, bigoted pig of a terrorist (in their eyes)...it’s really all they have to hang onto because lets be honest, Biden has already broken about every campaign promise he made.

I would take out the (especially the left) for 2 reasons - 1) the ctrl-left distrusts Nancy, Schumer, etc. just as much as the alt-right distrusts McConnell, etc. and 2) there are plenty of MAGAts who buy Trump's BS and believe he cares about the little guy. Lots of suckers and ostriches out there.

Good post, WB.
At some point during his presidency, I stole Chizzang’s old line of Walmart being a mirror on America and applied it to Trump.
The reflection screams “man...I’ve really let myself go.”.

For the sake of balance, I will assert that the establishment Dems are more insidious than the Republicans. May have co-opted that from you and your relentless secret socialist warnings.
Not at all. I'm convinced that we are about to enter an era where our representatives (and us) put aside our petty, partisan differences, and strive for the good of every citizen! A new dawn!

I only say that because they’re in charge now (all three branches)....they will NOT see the truth because their party has the power.

Agreed, but again this didn't happen in a vacuum. If Trump directly called for his supporters to storm the "gates" at the Capitol then we'd be having a different conversation. He didn't, he called for a peaceful tact in his speech.
You're talking about 1 speech and are ignoring the totality of what led up to that speech. He told a militia group to stand by and stand ready. He and his surrogates told them their country was in danger, to fight like hell, trial by combat, go to the Capitol and support he Republicans. He did a lot more than say be peaceful, one time in one speech.
And where's all the violence Trump has supposedly incited?
Gotta love Democrats. Said they wanted to call witnesses to testify to alleged Trump statements, until Ted Cruz threatened to call Pelosi to the stand and make her answer to why she turned down Trump's offer to provide 10,000 National Guard troops in addition to her security briefings.
If that doesn't tell you all you need to know about this "trial".
Saw the headline on the Dems flip flopping on witnesses and I laughed. Then saw this interview with Trump's defense lawyer and it made total sense. As expected the Dems had nothing on this whole impeachment and it was just a political circus from the jump. Seriously, they faked tweets as evidence. Tells you everything.
His acquittal all but assures we won’t be moving on.

I'd argue it was decided to move on the moment the closing argument started and Dems decided to not hear witnesses. Honestly, I don't think most people GAF about the impeachment trial.
At this point Congressional Donks can either go on to deal with pandemic-related stuff or go on pointlessly chasing their Moby Dick by barring Trump from office with legislation.
