Say what?

Just today you had anti-maskers shutting down a Dep of Health hearing in Boise protesting mask usage and lockdowns along with a DOH official in tears having to leave an interview because her 12 year old son was at home alone and protestors were knocking at the door. Then you have 17 State AG's sending a brief to SCOTUS in support of the Texas suit.

You had the MIchigan -hey, let's kidnap the governor brigade - among hundreds of other examples this earlier this year.

I was just watching a snippet of (former) republicans Steve Schmidt and Steve Miller describing the situation as an autocratic threat against democracy on a show hosted by Nicole Wallace (another Republican). Mitt Romney is starting to echo similar concerns.

Yet only 6 US senators have acknowledged Biden's victory and 88% of total congressional Republicans haven't.

JSO, was referring to the R base, not political leadership, but if you'd really like to try and form some equivalency here with the social democrats, knock yourself out. :thumb:

Just look at all those armed and dangerous economic socialists who've placed Bernie and AOC at the tip of the Democratic Party spear!

Pol and Joe would be proud!

There are wackos on both sides using intimidation and threats of violence to force change. You're alarmed by a DOH hearing in Boise, the Michigan incompetents, etc. but you pooh pooh people who are alarmed by AnTiFa while covering yourself by proclaiming that you're against all violence.

Both sides have fallen off the f'ing deep end and neither has the moral high ground to criticize the other until they actually get their shit straight. The ctrl-left wackos are acting civilized because Biden won. It's an act, if Trump has somehow prevailed they'd be looting and pillaging. Their being offended by the way Trump's supporters are behaving is hypocritical bullsh!t.

Trump might be an egomaniacal sociopath but he's too much of a buffoon to be a serious autocratic threat against democracy. I'm much more concerned about the insidious, Manchurian approach of the ctrl-left. Promising equal outcomes but not being honest that everyone will be equal, equally miserable.

Oh look who's now suddenly talking about equality!

:kisswink:

Like I've said before, I remain mindful of your third paragraph. I also agree (and said as much prior to) that turmoil would have existed if Trump had won. I'll grant you those. Still not a strong equivalency when comparing kidnapping a governor or overturning state elections through the courts (by not just Trump but 17 states and the Pennsylvania assembly) to a loosely knit anarchist group or race riots (albeit costly ones).

FWIW, I'm making some of the same arguments as you with my snot nosed oldest who's taking poli-sci and makes me sound like BDK at times. FML  So I'll be side by side with ya on keeping tabs of the insidious threat posed by socialist democrats but the circumstances currently on the ground are more immediate.

I think this will blow over too but it does raise my eyebrows.

Burning, looting, rioting, autonomous zones, self proclaimed “law”, assaults on journalists or anyone who dares to film them, those are not just “insidious threats”....those are ALL things that have happened in the past seven months, some still happening today and EVERY day in cities like Portland. I’d call that pretty fucking “immediate”.

Is there anything Donald Trump has done so far in questioning the results of this election that have been illegal? Outside the law? Because I can guaranfuckingTEE you that if Trump had received vote dumps in the tens or hundreds of thousands in the middle of the night in EVERY key swing state necessary to win the election at the last minute the MSM and the CTRL-Left and social media justice warriors would be lining UP to get this shit overturned. They would literally be burning down America if the shoe was on the other foot, and you KNOW it to be true. And I’m not just talking about Trump winning, I’m talking if he’d won the way Biden appears to have won. There’s not a leftie out there with a shred of integrity who can state with conviction that what I’m saying wouldn’t happen. And yet, all Trump has done is try to get some light shed on what appears to be some hinky behavior in a couple key cities that cost him the election. That doesn’t make him the devil, and it doesn’t make him someone who’s trying to “steal” the election. He wants the truth. I want the truth. YOU should want the truth.

Because next time, the shoe might be on the other foot. :coffee:

I agree with almost everything you posted but not the bolded part. Trump has done more than just try to shed some light on what appears to hinky behavior. He and his legal teams have made claims that they have not been able to substantiate. This has thrown gasoline on the fire of his supporters and some of them have gone out and tried to intimidate election officials. Trump is a serial liar who doesn't care about the truth, he cares about himself and his own fragile ego. There is some hinky stuff with this election that needs to be investigated but it would help if Trump acted like an adult and not a petulant 8 y/o throwing a temper tantrum.

I am interested in Kalm's response to the rest of your post. Kalm, you can't get off the hook by focusing on that one aspect (JSO style).

The lefty deniers would have at least worn masks while they looted and pillaged?

I already agreed there would have likely been chaos from the left. We saw it with the race riots so I’m not sure who you and Z are trying to convince. I’m honestly surprised there hasn’t been any notable violence so far so perhaps the lefty rioters would have burned less shit down too?

I of course also support legal proceedings and trust the courts to throw out crap. That said, judges are fallible. The constitutionality of the Texas case should be DOA not to mention the lack of supporting facts from proceedings in other cases.

To question the sincerity of the legal challenges would be putting it nicely. It’s literally the same as blaming the refs. It’s less of a stretch to imagine the chaos motive with an eye toward what happens to Trump and Co. post-election than to believe, based on the FACTS presented, that fraud decided the outcome. If there were legitimate facts rather than hopeful speculation and conspiracy theories, they would have been used. But yeah...Dominion, Republican AG’s and appointed judges, Zombie Hugo Chavez, and flash drive packing campaign workers masterminded this (literally Team Trump’s public accusations.)

FTR, I’m all for investigating and strengthening the system with as much transparency as possible. Just beware this includes increased government size and regulation.

Trump and his supporters have no one to blame but themselves for this and the grieving stages have just started. Ninety percent of the GOP are about to finish their training and earn their certified crazy uncle status.

I’m not saying he’s done it in a pretty, concise, professional way. He doesn’t do ANYTHING that way. Of course he’s going to go after it with a flamethrower, fix the crack in the windshield with a sledgehammer....pick your euphemism. He’s proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that’s the ONLY way he knows how to operate.

I’ve said it from the beginning: I pray to god nothing comes of this—I do NOT want them to find any kind of meaningful fraud. Because with everything else going on in this country, the LAST thing we need is proven election fraud on top of it. THAT, I think, truly might be the last straw to a potential civil war. So yeah, I hope every last one of his filings gets thrown out, i hope his evidence is non-existent. I hope the SC sees the case and throws it out based on lack of evidence/merit, whatever. But be thankful he’s using the COURT system to do this, and be grateful the shoe is not on the other foot, because this country would be on FIRE right now if it were.

Is there any point in your mind where the scale tips toward one being "more whacko" though? I'd certainly say that there are many more "whacko" Trump extremists. To deny that is just delusional.

I believe that one side can take the mortal high ground by trying to protect the overall population from getting sick and/or dying. I also feel that supporting equality and love over racism and hatred is the moral high ground.....that can't be argued. Please note that if you do not involve politics or specific people or causes.....those points just cannot be argued.

Health & life > illness & death

Love > hatred

Equality > racism

I'd also argue that Trump has come closer to becoming an autocratic threat than any other person in the history of the United States. He has a sizable number of U.S. Senators, House Reps, and major media outlets and personalities believing and supporting his cause. He also has tens of millions of Americans believing his lies. He has the attention of the Supreme Court and a number of justices that also support him....personally, ethically, and morally.

The last 4 years, and even more specifically the last 8 months, would cast significant doubt on that statement.

Will Trump ever concede, and will this hurt the Republican Party in the long run?
The president has personally called on some local elected officials to reconsider the results. Now, the disputed election has taken on a political life of its own that the party’s leadership may not be able to squash, even as Trump’s legal challenges crumble and state and national level officials declared it the most secure election in US history.

Republicans say it makes little political sense at this point for them to counter Trump’s views lest they risk a backlash from his supporters – their own constituents – back home.

They are relying on Trump voters to power the Georgia runoff elections on 5 January that will determine control of the Senate. And while some GOP lawmakers have acknowledged Biden’s victory, most prefer to keep quiet, letting the process play out “organically”, as one aide put it, into January.

It was borrowed from an article I posted (that was one of the reasons I posted it). :D

I think it describes that type of people quite well.

Same. There are some things that I agree with on the Libertarian and Republican sides but I do not identify as part of either party.

Why do you and Z hate life, health, love and equality?

So what's happening in the Palouse > what's happening in Portland?

Insinuating that Democrats/liberals/progressives are for Health & life, Love and Equality while Republicans/conservatives are for illness & death, hatred and racism is baloney. The riots in looting in Portland, Seattle and elsewhere are proof of that. Much of what the ctrl-left talks about isn't about making things equal, it's about turning the tables.

I don't think the ctrl-left loves or respects me or cares about my health & life. In their world, I would be a dissident who needs to be "re-educated" and who knows what when that fails.

I am more than willing to sit down and work toward equal opportunities but that collaboration must start with respect for opposing perspectives.

If Geoffrey really believes that Democrats/liberals/progressives are for Health & life, Love and Equality while Republicans/conservatives are for illness & death, hatred and racism then he has been misled.
