Are they only banning pornographic books?

Are the books in Legum's tweet pornography?

Is this book pornography?

Image

Or this one?

Image

Because whiny, baby Karens have complained about them and had them removed from libraries/instruction.
Agreed. The cop-out by BDK to scream about pornography is just that, a cop-out. The vast majority of book banning that's popped up recently have nothing to do with that but rather with topics (gender identity, racial identity, etc) that far right whackos want to decide for everyone. Not having a Playboy in a school library is not really being argued here.
So WHO gets to decide what is pornographic, what is too graphically violent, what is age inappropriate, etc? Because if its not anything goes at any age, then someone(s) has to decide what limits.

If a straight parent can use the [http://laws.flrules.org/2022/22]Don't Say Gay Law (Florida HB 1557)[/url] to complain about LGBTQ+ discussion (or books) in schools, couldn't a gay parent also use it to complain about discussion (or books) about people who clearly identify as straight/cis?
Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.
Being straight is a sexual orientation and being cis is a gender identity. Any discussion/books including them should be restricted as well.

There go books with George & Martha Washington, John & Abigail, Abe & Mary Todd, Ronald & Nancy, etc.

Can gendered titles like Mrs. or Mr. still be used for teachers and administrators? What about gendered pronouns for classmates?

I wish Ivy or Joe were still around to give us their interpretation and let us know what they think a strict constructionist like Justice Scalia would have thought of these bills (HB1557 and HB1069).

There is no such thing as a ‘Dont Say Gay Law‘ There is the Parental Rights In Education bill which an overwhelming majority of Floridiams supported, imcluding a majority of democrats, in multiple polls.

Kindergarten through 3rd grade through out the school year is roughly 5-9 years old. Nothing about sexual orientation/gender identity should be discussed at that age.

Actually being straight is just…normal..

  1. Don't Say Gay was/is it's nickname. :dunce:
  2. It doesn't matter who supported it if it's poorly crafted and has unintended consequences.
  3. Recently passed HB 1069 extends it through high school.
  4. Straight is a sexual orientation regardless of what you think is normal.
More importantly, you passed over the meat of my questions/concerns:
  • If a book with obviously gay characters isn't allowed because of sexual orientation than that prohibition should extend to all books with characters whose sexual orientation is obvious.
  • Calling your teacher Mrs. Jones or Mr. Jones is gender identification.
The laws should apply to sexual orientation regardless of peoples' opinions on what is normal. If not it should have been written to reflect that (but then it probably wouldn't have passed Constitutional muster).

1. It‘s nickname by the left. So if you use it that makes you among the left.
2. Only the far left has claimed it was poorly crafted.
3. You mentioned HB 1057 by name. You didn‘t 1069.
4. So straight is the normal orientation.

Yes, and there are only 2 genders.
Then go argue your case in court as to what is obvious
sexual orientation to 5-9 year olds, and whether saying Mr/Mrs Jones is permissible. As far as I can tell, 2 lawsuits filed in fed court, 1 dosmissed.

1. Sure. I don't care if it makes MAGAts feel better to say I'm among the left. I'm on the left on some things and on the right on others. Overall, I'm probably pretty close to the middle.

2. I'm not on the far left and I think it was poorly crafted because it applies to all expressions of sexual orientation and gender identity to try and fool the courts but their true intentions will be revealed if they selectively enforce it.

3. Look again (in italics at the bottom of my post).

4. Straight is normal to you. The majority of people are heterosexual, that doesn't make homosexuals not normal any more than blonds, left-handed people or people who throw colored streamers at football games aren't normal.

There are only 2 biological genders.

The time to argue this case in court is if it's applied selectively (i.e. schools and educators are allowed to include heterosexual and cis materials but not LTBTQ+ materials).

Pro Palestinian = pro Hamas.

No different than disbanding a pro German student group during WWII. Back then pro German would have = pro NAZI.

Life isn't that black and white. Someone can feel that Palestinian people deserve better, that Israel can do better and not be pro terrorist.

There are quite a few Palestinians in the US. Telling them they can't support their people isn't an attack on the 1st Amendment (and a right-wing version of the cancel culture they decry) but telling donald trump he can't threaten people and call them names is? MAGAt yahoos live in a fvcked up world.

50%? :suspicious: I heard it was 40%. Even so, that’s some ridiculous breeding those people have going on. Statista says the US avg is 22% Even in Mormonland (UT) the state with the highest percentage under 18, its 27.6%.

During WWII were people protesting the carpet bombing of German and Japanese cities that included children?

I don’t know. This isn’t WWII. 50% are children, the rest of the population aren’t all Hamas supporters. It’s quite easy to be pro-peace and pro-life for Palestinians without being pro-Hamas. Same is true of Israel, or Ukraine, or Russia.

Using BDKKKaren's logic, if you're anti-Ukraine funding then you're pro-russia, pro-putin, and anti-Democracy.
