Re: China
Re-taking our supply chains sounds like bigoted Trumpism and nationalism. We just need to keep the faith. More free trade and I'm sure China will join a liberal world order.

Re: China
I’m glad this is finally open source. This is one of the things I’m thinking about when I say that China is whipping us in terms of military technology in ways that completely upset the global strategic balance.
This missile is blindingly fast, can go to orbit and loiter there, and then come down at hypersonic speeds onto a target. Our ABM systems, to my knowledge, are not geared for shooting this kind of missile down (they are for shooting down much slower objects on ballistic paths). Also- to my knowledge, we have nothing like this. If I could say how fast it is, nobody would believe me.
This is why I complain about big, wasteful spending but give defense spending a pass (defense spending that is targeted and not wasteful). China needs to understand that they will also be destroyed if they attempt strategic war. Right now I do not believe we can guarantee that. Without it, they can add military force to economic coercion to their box of foreign policy tools which we will not be able to counter. And as our weaker allies knuckle under, we will be isolated and our economy will be wrecked.
The need for that big stick is more necessary now than ever

Re: China
The Chinese are also most likely ahead of us in quantum entanglement tech and probably quantum computing itself (which can be used to break encrypted communications quickly). We can definitely spend a lot less on defense AND have the best military in the world.
But hey, we'll have the Chinese beat on defense contractor profits and their board room diversity, and that's what matters.

Quantum communications too... completely unbreakable secure communications.

There is something very wrong with that graphic.SDHornet wrote:Interesting thread given the recent tech news on the Chicoms.
It is true when talking about “most” hypersonics but it is waay off in reference to this new Chinese missile. It is in a class all its own.

Re: China
This probably a bigger deal than even the hypersonic missiles - if you want to read a fascinating pair of stories about cryptography check out Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. Some of our "lucky breaks" during WW2 weren't luck at all - like we knew right where Yamamoto was going to be and had P-38s waiting on his flight. When the Brits cracked the German Enigma machine they were using a brute force approach and got lucky fairly early while trying the billions of possible permutations. Their biggest problem was how to act on the information without tipping off the Germans that the codes had been broken by suddenly being in the right place all the time.Pwns wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 11:19 am The Chinese are also most likely ahead of us in quantum entanglement tech and probably quantum computing itself (which can be used to break encrypted communications quickly). With respect to China - we either accept the on-going Chinese usurpation of our position as king-of-the-hill or we whittle their population down to a sustainable number and they can return to being a hermit kingdom. One of the points made in the book mentioned above is that a fundamental miscalculation made by the Japanese was their failure to understand that we are grudge-holders on a scale that a people who learn to swallow their pride from infancy simply can't comprehend.

Its more important for the 0.01% to have a reliable supply of wage-slave labor. All this jive and nonsense about a "living wage" and "quality of life" just makes us seem like ingrates that don't understand that we're already living our best life and shouldn't be annoyed by small shit like picking up the healthcare tab for employees of Wal-Mart and McDonalds so their owners can move more billions offshore and out of circulation. Americans need to stop whining and get behind our visionary billionaires.

As a former enlisted troop I hate to get caught out of character praising the officer corps but even a dumb cunt like you should be able to recognize that the General may have saved our Republic's bacon and that it is a good thing that the guys calling the shots for our military are highly educated. Thank all the gods for West Point and Annapolis providing the only adults in the room during those foul years.

Re: China
China shouldn't be too proud of the technological terror they've constructed. The ability to launch a hypersonic missile with a nuclear warhead is insignificant next to the power of having an inclusive and diverse high command.
