Let's look at the situation as a whole. I'm not going to easily believe someone that is a known liar. That's why in a post above I said I wish we knew who the source was. Let's look at the credibility of the people and confirm. I know journalists have a bias, as we all do, however a LOT of rigor and confirmation goes into stories like these before they get published. I'm more likely to believe that than a known liar telling me it's false. Are stories ever wrong? Sure - and they get retracted when they aren't held up to scrutiny.
But Ibanez’s point is still valid.
The editor of the Atlantic has more to lose and way more resources at his disposal including access to witnesses and ability to corroborate a story through real paid reporters and fact checkers than Joe Blow posting a meme he got off social media.
