The scariest thing about this is that it can be spread before symptoms are visible (at least last I heard). So basically this thing can go pretty much anywhere before anyone knows it.

That’s true of several viruses that are transmitted via aerosol

The fact that China is talking about anything civil rights related is laughable.

Looks like Chinese health officials knew what they had on their hands around late Dec and sat on it for about 3 weeks

Still more transparent than they were with SARS though, but that isn’t saying much

But there IS an element of unnecessary panic here - this virus may turn out to be less lethal than SARS. So far it has killed only Chinese, and urban Chinese already have compromised respiratory systems. When it circulates in a healthy population then I think we will see a much lower fatality rate - limited to people with weakened respiratory systems like asthmatics, elderly, and young children.

BTW for Asia news, I highly recommend the Nikkei Asian Review. It is basically the Japanese Reuters, but even better. There’s no market for NAR’s model in the West because it isn’t sensational or slanted. Very good, detailed reporting.

And yet another cruise ship being quarantined (are a # of them world wide now). This one in NJ:
https://nypost.com/2020/02/07/four-peop ... n-bayonne/

Royal Caribbean said its entire fleet would prohibit any guests holding a Chinese, Hong Kong or Macau passport from boarding until further notice, regardless of when they were last in the country.

Anyone want to go on a cruise soon? Bet there's great deals now..

Everyone needs to chill out.....this is so not a big deal. Just got back from Orlando.....theme parks as crowded as ever.....people coughing and sneezing all over the place. We aren't stopping any viruses spread through human contact in this crowded dirty germ fest of a world.....just enjoy the time you have left.

I think the cruise ship gives them a chance to gain some insight into how contagious it is person to person.

Another "epicenter" in a different Chinese district/state (whatever those commies call them) has been identified.

Also rumors on 4chan (take it with a grain of salt) has Chinese crematoriums working overdrive. But yeah let's trust the numbers provided by the Red chinese gubmint.

Yep- now Chinks are saying 900+ dead and 40k+ sickened. I remember reading last week that was likely 4x what the Chinese are acknowledging.

60 more cases on cruise ship in Japan, now up to 130 total.
https://mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN2040FG

Seems like on a cruise ship could spread like wildfire.

Meanwhile, cruise ship that left Hong Kong (no known cases of the Coronavirus) had been denied a scheduled port call in Manilla, also denied in Japan and Guam. Floating around trying to find a willing port..

They are saying that close to 5 million Chinese left Wuhan before the quarantine went into place.

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/20 ... uarantine/
For weeks after the first reports of a mysterious new virus in Wuhan, millions of people poured out of the central Chinese city, cramming onto buses, trains and planes as the first wave of China’s great Lunar New Year migration broke across the nation. Some carried with them the new virus that has since claimed over 8 00 lives and sickened more than 37,000 people.

Officials finally began to seal the borders on Jan. 23. But it was too late. Speaking to reporters a few days after the the city was put under quarantine, the mayor estimated that 5 million people had already left.

Cruise lines banned Chinese, Hong Kong, and Macau passport holders 2 days ago, and anyone who has traveled through mainland China in the last 2 weeks.

Shouldn’t airlines follow suit?
