Of course not. Those things happen during a crisis.

‘We’d fight the axis powers but what about the children and the expenses?’

Btw, another study is out placing WA in the top of 5 of pandemic related economic stability and recovery. Loads of mitigating factors, but I’d say we’re doing remarkably well saving lives without economic catastrophe at least so far.

On another fear porn note...

Can a Georgian use their vaccination card in lieu of other voter ID?

You're the one that responded to Gil's post with "good point" but the economy has gone in the shitter for many and many kids aren't getting the education they were before. It isn't fear porn, it's real. FTR, I'm not arguing against the restrictions but to pretend that they didn't come with costs is sticking your head in the sand stupid.

Yes Washington (and Oregon) has done better than other states. Do you think that's because they were stricter on the lockdowns or maybe because they have more people working jobs that could be done remotely?

Good point for you on the "another fear porn note ...", the reaction to the Georgia election law as Jim Crow could be described as leftist fear porn.
I acknowledged “other mitigating factors” and I’ll remind you that “fear porn” is neither mine or Gil’s dismissal of serious issues.

IOW’s you and I mostly agree but you’re arguing quite well against satire here.

Don't forget the fearporn about the economy going in the shitter, mask are taking away our freedom, our kids are not getting educated.

As I typed the fear of our kids not getting educated, it appeared to me, those are the same people that are saying that the schools are breeding grounds for the liberal agenda.
And teen suicides up, and other issues lockdowns brought upon society. :coffee:

Research has shown that teen suicides are not up. They remained about the same, mainly due to people reaching out for help.

Minnesota has been going up, but the vaccinations could nip in the bud. 7-day moving average has doubled since May 6th, over 3000 new cases today. We were under 1000 per day back in may.

We don't know that.
With absolute certainty? No. But it's reasonable to assume that efforts to take away the stigma of mental health issues and encourage people to seek help mitigated what would have been an increase in suicides due to restrictions and lockdowns. It's not that the restrictions and lockdowns didn't cause an increase in mental health issues, it's that forward-thinking people anticipated the possibility and worked to proactively address it.

To ignore the likelihood is just as disingenuous as the fear porn that MAGAts are spreading.

Fun detail - although PA is now moved to 1B on the vaccine registration, a major pharmacy like CVS is not allowing all the categories that are allowed under 1B (for instance, mfg workers are not included for CVS while they are covered under 1B). There is a provision that says that states can exert tighter restrictions on pharmacies in terms of who they can dispense the vaccine too. Interestingly enough, Rite Aid does vaccinate mfg workers now. Always great to see the way that government works efficiently with the rest of the world.

Pandemic masks ongoing child abuse crisis as cases plummet
A loss in reports means greater potential for harm because “there has not all of the sudden been a cure for child abuse and neglect,” said Amy Harfeld, an expert in child abuse deaths with the Children’s Advocacy Institute.
...
Before the pandemic, Marc Lerario seemed to be turning a corner, despite his record of a dozen assault charges — including domestic violence incidents against Ashley. He quit smoking and drinking, worked out, and watched movies or played video games with the family, Belson said. But in April 2020, Marc’s grandmother died of COVID-19 at a nursing home outside Philadelphia. He was hours away and never got to say goodbye, and he spiraled into depression.
...
Nearly a quarter of families didn’t participate in virtual school, so it wasn’t unusual that even enthusiastic, high-achieving learners like Ava might never log in to the district’s platforms, he said. Some parents, frustrated by technology and access issues, chose to go it alone, and Palazzo didn’t blame them. The usual truancy rules, in which the school must report to CPS any unexplained absence of more than six consecutive days, didn’t apply based on new state guidelines. Palazzo said the school called all 550 students at the start and made at least five attempts to reach Ava’s family about absences, via a letter, phone calls and email.
...
“I don’t believe this would have happened this way if not for the pandemic pushing him beyond the brink,” Soberick said of Marc Lerario. “This is a horrific, horrible main example, but I’m sure similar things to a lesser degree happened not just in Carbon County — throughout Pennsylvania and the nation.”
Everything's fine. Restrictions are saving lives. Nobody is suffering. Look the other way and smile behind your mask.

Are you trying to say that they're suffering is the same during covid as it was pre-covid? Or are you trying to diminish their current suffering because they were suffering before? IMO, more people are suffering and their suffering is worse than it was pre-covid.

I intentionally, not conveniently, didn't mention mask fear porn because I agree with you on that.

As I've stated, I'm not arguing against the restrictions but to pretend that they didn't come with costs or to minimize those costs is as disingenuous as spreading fear porn.
