It would just seem to depend on how long the virus cells live on the surface of the mask. I was thinking more along the lines of a mask's ability to block particles. For someone who has to wear it daily for work it's probably significant, but for someone like me who only has to wear one every few days, it's probably less important.
But anything that reduces the amount of airborne cells is still better than nothing, no?

Shush! You are not supposed to ask those types of questions to ones betters.

Re: Coronavirus COVID-19
I don't think Fauci is all there, unless there is context I'm missing. People are dining indoors and going to events, even without the vaccine.
After listening to the video, it sounds like he's talking about wearing mask at these places, to prevent spreading the virus, even if you are vaccinated.
Re: Coronavirus COVID-19
The context is WRT to a mask (and other measures). What he said is exactly what I've read and medical friends have told me.
And hell, I've had the virus and know I can't get it or spread it (for a little while at least).
Wear a mask people, stay distant, be safe. It's your civic duty.

Osterholm was on MSNBC last night and indicated that social distancing guidelines post vaccination is an impossible ask. EG: grandparents can hang with their grandkids.
Meanwhile he’s also suggesting relying on 1/2 dosages for Moderna (they probably over-shot the potency), allocating a greater percentage to seniors, and delaying 2nd jabs to reach herd immunity.
He repeatedly warned about the spread of variants.

Very interesting read and another expert who’s worthy of following.

“The story of the pandemic”
Julia Belluz
Moving forward, what’s the big vaccine issue you’re going to be tracking?
Hilda Bastian
It’s still early days for clinical trials, so I’ll be tracking those and new boosters against variants, as well as what happens in vaccinated communities. [I’m] also watching how the rich countries are cornering vaccines, and those advancing their geopolitics to fill in the gaps — it’s actually quite a horrifying thing.
Star Trek Fleet Command
MOST IPHONE OWNERS DON'T KNOW HOW ADDICTING THIS GAME IS
Ad Star Trek Fleet Command View Site
Very rarely do you see people from one of the rich countries expressing concern that their country may be fully vaccinated within a few months. I’m not utopian and that idealistic about it. It was never 100 percent going to happen that way [that the high priority groups in rich and poor countries got vaccinated at the same levels at the same time, per WHO advice], but I hoped at least for something roughly close, and I’m really quite shocked how comfortable people are with what’s happening.
YOU CAN’T BUY WHAT’S ALREADY GONE FROM THE SHELVES
Some are promoting personal donations to WHO now for vaccines, which just underscores the lack of awareness that the problem is rich countries taking all the doses for ourselves. You can’t buy what’s already gone from the shelves. There are severe limits to what can be produced this year. Even with recent promises of more money for WHO from rich countries, 2021 looks pretty grim.
In a way, for me, that’s the story of the pandemic. We had too many people more concerned about their individual rights or about wearing masks or flying for a vacation, or complaining about the restrictions that they faced, than the consequences of those actions for people more vulnerable than themselves. Now, it’s playing out [with] vaccines, too.
Julia Belluz
From a health perspective, why is hoarding so concerning?
Hilda Bastian
We need to reduce the chances of the virus morphing into more dangerous variants — vaccines might not protect communities enough from new variants sweeping through. And many of the rich countries will have trouble getting enough people vaccinated anyway. The notion that there can be countries where there’s going to be 40-year-olds and 30-year-olds vaccinated while there are terrible outbreaks in other parts of the world, and even the health care practitioners are unprotected, isn’t okay on any level.

I am not so sure on those qualifications. Remember that Star Trek command had all that trouble with the Borg? To say nothing of the Klingon"s in the early days.

My first job was picking garbage for $1 an hour along the fairgrounds fence line in Missoula. Every summer, for weeks before the fair came to town, me and my brother would go along the fence (3-4 miles, surrounding the entire fairgrounds) and fill bag after bag. When that job was done we’d follow the tractor around the horse track and pick 5 gallon buckets of rocks. When THAT was done we’d shovel out the 100+ horse stalls for 75 cents a stall.Gil Dobie wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 9:27 pmYou are young and might not remember the days when our ditches were full of trash.
