90% of America is doing exactly that. And the virus is still virusing. What’s your next option, Myron?
If we're doing what's best for our fellow man, we wouldn't have half the population coughing in peoples faces, having No Mask parties and spreading disinformation.

So no, Mortimer, 90% of America isn't doing exactly that. There's a certain population that doesn't see the big picture and refuses to do the basic things to help slow the spread. Again - if our feckless leader had actually been a leader we might not be talking so much about it.

No...we would. This country is divided. If Biden said the sun is a star, you'd have 1/2 of this country arguing with him.
Yeah, ok.. :dunce:  if you believe that.

Case counts are meaningless. We've been through this discussion about 100 pages ago.
Yes we have and no they’re not. All numbers have meaning. Case counts drive hospitalizations and deaths. You were wrong back then too and nothing has changed...
“I want to be very clear: Our hospitals are under siege, and our model shows no end in sight,” Christina Ghaly, director of L.A. County’s Department of Health Services, said at a dire news briefing.

Because it takes, on average, [more than a week](https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2 ... e_manual_9) for people to get sick enough to be hospitalized, today’s capacity numbers actually reflect case numbers that are roughly 10 days old, when the state was reporting 10,000 fewer infections.

“The worst,” Ghaly promised, “is still before us.”

The rapid increase in new cases, virus hospitalizations and deaths — which have nearly all doubled — comes at a precarious point in the pandemic. California has already reenacted tough restrictions meant to curb the coronavirus’s spread, yet it has continued unabated.
How is that possible? I thought LA and Cali were locked down and there are stay at home orders?
If fascism ever comes to America, it will come in the name of liberalism. Ronald Reagan, 1975.

What world are you living in? Yes, there’s an element of the population who are “never maskers”, but the vast majority of people I see out and about are definitely wearing them. “Half the population” is coughing in people’s faces? Really? Someone is watching too much twitter....

I stand by my assertion that the vast majority of the population is wearing masks, social distancing, sanitizing. And the virus is still spreading because THAT’S WHAT VIRUSES DO. It will be over when IT decides it’s over.

You previously acknowledged the people that were no wearing mask properly. Then there are those the wear shields, which is only for eye protection in addition to your mask. Then people with scarves and half-assed mask. If we went into a large store today and looked at everyone in the store. I bet we only find 25% wearing a proper mask and wearing it correctly, and not touching it with their hands.

Could be many factors including what Gil is talking about with non-compliance. Masks and business restrictions are only two preventative measures. Social distancing probably gets cheated on much more...see Thanksgiving and the issues with pods/bubbles and what happens a few weeks after Christmas.

Possible factors:
- Non-compliance/lax compliance & fatigue (people are tired of wearing masks, physical distancing, staying home, etc. and are taking more chances)
- There has been more incentive and desire to get together for Halloween and Thanksgiving
- Seasonal - Is the virus more contagious/dangerous as the weather changes like the flu and common cold?

Love how the goalposts keep moving with the China virus. No masks, now masks, everyone has to wear them, everyone is wearing them but now they aren't worn properly...

Stay locked down until a vaccine, but don't trust a vaccine developed while Trump is in office, oh now a vaccine is rolling out but we still have to stay locked down even after everyone gets it. :dunce:

We have plenty of data to show who is at risk and who should be concerned. Anyone buying into the fear porn at this point is hopeless.

Remember how COVID-19 denialists were pointing to Sweden? I'm not going to check to see if this basic thing has already been posted. Here it is:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... on-s-trust
Swedes are rapidly losing faith in their country’s response to the pandemic, with even the King delivering a rare rebuke to those in charge.

Significantly more Swedes have gotten sick and died from Covid-19 than elsewhere in the Nordic region. And with Stockholm recently almost running out of intensive care beds, frustration levels are high.
It's just more of the same with respect to what the Republican base has become. A bunch of idiots. Seriously. That's what the situation is.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Of course they’ve changed...that’s called learning. No one is suggesting we can save every life and locked down is a relative turn based on additional learning and acceptance of the CURRENT best science.

But you get to install new goal posts. They are based on long term health effects, long term healthcare costs, long term economic productivity costs (both lockdown related AND your best projections of the results of opening completely back up with zero restrictions and voluntary precautions (suggested reading: Sweden).

Your new goal posts are number of deaths (both directly related and systemic compromised healthcare system related).

Ready...go!

Since Jason Compson chose to not link to the actual article and took quotes out of context, here is the actual article he was referring to. It’s a good read and something everyone should be aware of sans the politics.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytime ... t.amp.html

As the piece shows, it’s a complicated and difficult debate on who gets the vaccine first. This is a life and death decision and some good points come from all sides. I want to lean toward the elderly and vulnerable first (obviously regardless of race). However, that could lead to greater deaths in those vulnerable populations due to prolonged spread. A case can also be made regarding increased death and severity of infection rates and their socio-economic reliance on front line jobs.

Death panels transcend race, economics, and political leanings.

From start to finish... the translation stands. Those two are post-partisan racists. Lots of other things were discussed. It’s a tough decision that has to be made. We can Cuomoize the elderly in favor of an overly broad definition of essential, or we can save more lives.
