Lynching

Ok. Obviously I'm not writing this to defend Trump. But this Black hypersensitivity thing has got to stop. Lynching is not historically exclusive to Blacks. Using "lynching" as a metaphor is not racist. The definition of "lynch" is "to put to death (as by hanging) by mob action without legal approval or permission." (Merriam Webster). Lynching has been practiced throughout the history of civilization. In the United States it happened to members of various ethnic groups. Here's one example:
Yes, it's true that most of the victims of lynching in the United States from the late 1800s on were Black. But Blacks are not, historically, the only victims of lynching. "Lynching" does not mean "hanging Blacks." Yes, hanging Blacks was one manifestation of lynching. But plenty of other lynching went on for thousands of years.

I'm glad you have finally seen your way to realize Trump is correct on all. Welcome back John.

I'm sure it's probably not intentional, but if there's one way to get the biggest presidency drama in a long time out of the news, it's to create a race controversy. For a lot of people being racially insensitive is worse than being a child molestor.

Why? He asked a question and provided context for his question. If you disagree, refute JSO's points and tell us why you think lynching is a racist term.

1). Used in that context it signals something egregious lending credence to the word.
2). What’s being done to Trump is nowhere near a lynching. Snowflake whining.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make in #1. A lynching is violently egregious but JSO is correct that while African Americans were disproportionately targeted they were not the only victims of lynching. Is it a racially tinged term?
If it is, am I being racist when I refer to the Bison faithful on AGS that jump all over someone after they make a post that isn't complimentary of NDSU as the Bison Lynch Mob? And is it even more racist when I shorten it to BLM?
You'll get no argument from me on #2. But maybe getting bent out of shape about Trumpster's use of the term is snowflake whining itself.

This to me is another instance in whick whoever is running Trumps campaign, went back and saw how many Dems called Bill Clinton's impeachment a lynching and decided to put it in play here.
Much like his debate with Cummings. We saw how that turned out.

I agree and could have worded 1) better. Trump is a master troll. To equate what’s happening to him as lynching is intentional hyperbole that pisses off the opponents and rallies the base.
It’s like saying those refs really fucked us up the ass. That might upset relatives of ass rape victims a bit.

Lynchings of African American's were more common ECB than WCB, and south of the Mason/Dixon. Most likely due to demographics.

States have statutes against lynching and typically it is characterized as violent actions by a group of 3-4 or more people against one person. There’s no mention of race. I can remember a couple of times over the years in Charleston where gang violence was targeted with lynching charges

Disproportionately targeted during a relatively short time frame in the context of human history.

BTW, I am not saying Trump is correct. The impeachment inquiry is not a lynching. It's a Constitutional Process. Trump is totally incorrect. I'm just saying that using "lynching" as a metaphor is not racist. And I'm saying that this thing where people think "lynching" means "hanging Black People" is a bunch of crap. Without looking it up I would bet that the overwhelming majority of people lynched over the history of our species have NOT been Black.

Hey Dal -
Go on the internetz and look up the lynching statute in the SC Code of Laws
Then, you can query “lynching charges in SC” or similar and see that people are occasionally being charged with lynching, even to this day
You might be surprised who’s getting nabbed for lynching
