Maryland State Song, nixed...

Maryland, my Maryland will no longer be played by the University of Maryland marching band. The Civil War song to the tune of Oh Tannenbaum, makes mention of Northern Scum and refers to Lincoln as a despot in late verses.

I think this is a bit unusual, because its not racial charged. It was written in 1861 when Union soldiers unloaded and walked across town to transfer trains further south. The author was upset about his friend being killed in the riots following.
Fun fact: The Baltimore Riots of 1861 was the first blood shed of the Civil War.

That's kind of dumb, because the band plays an instrumental with no lyrics. Don't like the lyrics? Fine, have the state perform the legislative technicality of removing the offensive verse.
That's what Kentucky did with My Old Kentucky Home. That one I understand, because tens of thousands of people at the Kentucky Derby were singing, "It's summer, the darkies are gay!" in unison. So they changed "darkies" to "children" when the darkies got uppity about it.
Problem solved.

Fuck the Redskins.
I got to break out my Eagles golf umbrella this morning. Only got a little flack from the homeless fucks on 4th St. They were too drunk or in schizo delirium to come at me though.
They do seem to be the only people in the city who remember when the Skins were good though.

This, like many of the knee-jerk reactions to history, is dumb. Don't like the later verses? Then don't sing the later verses. The Star Spangled Banner has a weird and possibly controversial allusion to slavery in its third verse. Of course, the natural reaction to that is to say "wow, I didn't even know the Star Spangled Banner had more than one verse".
