Am I the only one that's a little uncomfortable the way that web hosts are removing web sites that no do not condone or allow any promotion of violence?

It's really easy to not be sympathetic to white identity groups when their websites are taken down, but given Google's reaction to a completely well-reasoned protest against the diversity policy and the political climate, there's no reason to think this can't metastasize and get out of control.

BTW, this is already arguably reached fever pitch on youtube. A lot of youtube channels that no one but he most hardcore SJWs would classify as white supremacist are getting demonetized for being "controversial" (i.e. conservative videos).

I think it should be made into law. "Hate speech" should be illegal. We should throw people who use hate speech into jail.

That's where these people want to go.

Nobody ever questions the end game on things like this. That's how you can tell when people are being ruled by resentment and emotion.

It is a clash between eliminating garbage speech and 1st amendment.

No it's not. They're private companies - the First Amendment doesn't apply.



They aren't discriminating based on race, religion or disability. Whether or not it's legal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation varies by state - but, it will probably be ruled on by SCOTUS in the next year or so.

I doubt SCOTUS ever includes "hate speech" as protected to the same degree. You shouldn't be arrested for simply espousing Nazi beliefs. But, if you do it at work you should be able to be fired, and if you do it at a restaurant, bar, etc. you should be able to be kicked out.

Google and other companies providing far reaching internet services are very close to being treated as public utilities by the courts

BTW there is no such thing as "hate speech"

I haven't said anyone is doing anything illegal.

And your point about telecom and internet provider regulation is well made, so kudos. Many of these companies don't really compete in any open marketplace, so I'm okay with reigning them in.

I'm just trying to figure out why so many progressives and liberals rant and rave about corporate control of government and the media but seem nonchalant about how these tech giants will have the power to see what you can see on the internet.

You don't have to feel sorry for King Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette when they get the guillotine, but you should know the executions are not going to end with them.
