The stuff you post about people of Christian faith is similar to what CG would post about people with darker skin.
Sorry but I try to call out bigotry and intolerance when I see it.

Your mocking of Christians is very similar to CG's mocking of African Americans. You'll justify it with "as long as it’s personal and not used to deny others rights" or by saying they choose to be Christian while African Americans (and homosexuals or transgender individuals) don't have a choice.kalm wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 10:16 am
I have zero problem with Christian faith. Or Muslim faith. Or pretty much any faith. As long as it’s personal and not used to deny others rights.
That doesn’t mean insistence on their version of the truth of things is off limits (especially outspoken media celebrities) to poke fun at or in the case where it harms others, sincerely criticize.
Btw, I posted someone else’s tweet. It wasn’t my words.
But your bigotry toward liberals and democratic socialists is duly noted.
I wouldn’t be outraged. Disappointed perhaps in sone instances.UNI88 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 11:35 amYour mocking of Christians is very similar to CG's mocking of African Americans. You would be outraged if a Twitter personality mocked African Americans, homosexuals, transgender individuals, etc.
Illiberals attacking and belittling Christians and Christianity demonstrates their intolerance.

Parody and satire are comic devices. Wokeness has made some of that more off-limits towards the other three groups you mentioned in certain situations.
The best humor is punching up rather than down. We are still a culture heavily dominated by Christianity in many negative ways. Do Christian’s now need protection as a part of woke culture?
If you’d prefer it, I will refrain from posting satirical shots at Christian’s from now on.
Take whatever shots you want. I'll laugh at shots taken at over-the-top Christians like Joel Osteen or Jerry Falwell Jr. just like I'll laugh at shots taken at Al Sharpton or Patrisse Cullors.kalm wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 1:12 pmI wouldn’t be outraged. Didn't know anything about Bernsen's religious faith. But he was pretty good as Roger Dorn in "Major League" and he also played the Dad on "Pysch" so those are good things.UNI88 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 3:58 pmTake whatever shots you want. I didn't know that Kevin Sorbo or Corbin Bernsen were devout Christians. What did they do to be deserving of satirical scorn other than being Christian?
I haven’t seen anything on him either but since ‘88 asked Sorbo is all over Twitter and yes he’s a right wing Christian fundamentalist.GannonFan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 7:11 amDidn't know anything about Bernsen's religious faith. He's certainly a devout Christian, no doubt. I don't think him playing a role in a movie...a sequel to a Nick Cage movie, qualifies as being some sort of fundamentalist. Of course unless every devout Christian is a fundamentalist in your opinion.
Left Behind series is certainly fundamentalist.
I thought it was more targetted for fundamentalists, but I thought it was generally panned by the evangelical crowd? Kinda like marketing to fundamentalists without actually being fundamentalists. Haven't seen it myself so just going off of what I remember hearing.
Believing in the Rapture makes you a fundamentalist?
Is that when Baby Jebus comes back and suspends gravity to float all of the truly faithful into the clouds?
I listen to the Drunk Ex Pastors podcast. They were both with the Calvary Chapel. The CC and Tim Lehaye are full on end time prophecy fundamentalists. It’s their shtick. I suppose Sorbo could just coincidentally be playing a role but his Twitter posts suggest otherwise.GannonFan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 9:33 amI thought it was more targetted for fundamentalists, but I thought it was generally panned by the evangelical crowd? Generally speaking, the rapture is not a tenet of many Christian churches, and is generally specific to more contemporary, evangelical churches in the US. Whether that means fundamentalist or not is really a point of discussion over what that term even means.
I thought that "full-on end time prophecy" stuff for them passed out of style in the '80's after their prophecy didn't come to be? That's like 50 years ago now. Do they have new prophecies?kalm wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 11:02 amI listen to the Drunk Ex Pastors podcast. They were both with the Calvary Chapel. I’m sure, but I don’t follow the Calvary Chapel. (Shocker, I know. ).GannonFan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 11:17 amI thought that "full-on end time prophecy" stuff for them passed out of style in the '80's after their prophecy didn't come to be? So what? He's not free to believe what he wants to believe? You have stated that people should be able to believe what they want unless it infringes upon someone else's rights. Has Sorbo infringed upon others' rights because of his beliefs? Or are you stereotyping and mocking him because of his religious beliefs?kalm wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 11:02 amI listen to the Drunk Ex Pastors podcast. They were both with the Calvary Chapel. Is someone here denying his freedom to believe? Take a deep breath. There’s really no threat here other than a critique of political beliefs. Note I’m no longer criticizing as promised. Just providing context as requested.UNI88 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 11:21 amSo what? He's not free to believe what he wants to believe? Yes, that's one version.
The list of evangelical churches that don't like the Catholic Church is quite a long one. Heck, my Mom, in the '60's, lived in a suburb of Philly (one of the surrounding counties) and couldn't apply to certain jobs because they advertised as "No Catholics". The vast majority of Catholic churches where I live aren't that long established as this used to be a strictly Protestant area. Of course, there's plenty of blame for this and the Catholic Church has their own flaws over history that account for some of that.

I don't think Protestant anger is directed at anything the Catholic church has done, but believe it's more policy difference. Protestants, especially more Fundamental, believe you get to go straight to Jesus, no one else needed. They look as it from the angle you are diminishing Jesus' power by requiring anyone else.GannonFan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 11:42 amThe list of evangelical churches that don't like the Catholic Church is quite a long one. Religion often equates to political beliefs. Sorbo is a very public figure and just like athletes in the limelight, puts himself out there. No rocks were uncovered to discover his politics. And let’s not pretend the religious right doesn’t have a ton of political influence.UNI88 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 11:45 amReligious beliefs ≠ political beliefs.
How is mocking someone's religious beliefs different than mocking someone's race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc? And before you give me religious beliefs are a choice argument, isn't religion a protected class deserving of the same protections?
I'm not above mocking religious figures such as Jerry Falwell Jr but I mock them for their actions, greed and hypocrisy not because they're religious. Just like I mock Al Sharpton not because he's African American but because of what he says and does.
Sidenote: let's not forget about Bernsen in LA Law.
