Huh? The Lincoln Project was founded in 2019…as a direct response to Trump. Like them or not, the founders were major players. Schmidt ran a presidential campaign. Making money off consulting is what political operatives do. Why do you hate the free market? LolSeattleGriz wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 8:52 amThe part I love about the Lincoln Project is that it's full of old "conservatives" that advised candidates on how to accomplish their conservative goals, but yet never quite materialized. Then Trump steps in, accomplishes their stated goals without them and exposed them as grifters simply looking to siphon off campaign dollars. Unsurprisingly, they had to find a new gig, so they went Never Trump. The best part is the liberals have embraced those losers with open arms as some sort of a victory.

Exactly. They were major players before Trump that didn't accomplish anything with their consulting. What Trump was able to do in regards to making America more competitive were all the items they said they could accomplish with their candidates, but didn't (McCain, Bush). They've been exposed as failures to true conservative values and now need to move their grift to a new group.kalm wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 9:29 amHuh? trump did some good things that helped the American economy but he also benefited from circumstances. He inherited an economy that was ready to boom after 8 years of tepid improvement under Obama. His policies were a force multiplier that made the boom even greater but it was going to boom whether he was POTUS or not.SeattleGriz wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 10:03 amExactly. FTR - trump's tax cut might have helped the economy in the short term but IMO it's going to have a detrimental impact in the long term because of it's impact on the deficit.

That may be, but I also remember when Obama said "manufacturing jobs were not coming back" and "Trump's going to need a magic wand to get them back". Trump brought them back when Obama kissed them goodbye. Not arguing with you as much as pointing out Trump was willing to try tariffs and other means to make America more desirable to jobs.UNI88 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 10:10 amtrump did some good things that helped the American economy but he also benefited from circumstances. The govt just set another record for tax reveunue. Govt has a spending problem, not a revenue problem, and Trump’s tax cuts do nothing to change that.UNI88 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 10:10 amtrump did some good things that helped the American economy but he also benefited from circumstances. One of the things I liked about Trump’s promises. I agree, trump's tax cuts did nothing to change the government's spending problem. They did exasperate the government's deficit problem.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 10:21 amThe govt just set another record for tax reveunue. No they didn’t. Tax cuts took effect in 2018.
2018 Fed govt set an all time tax revenue record.
2019 Fed govt set another all time tax revenue record
2021 Fed govt set another all time tax revenue record
2022 1st half of year govt on pace to set another all time tax revenue record.
Govt spending exasperated the govt’s defict and debt problem.

And without the tax cuts the government would have had even more revenue, deficits would have been lower and the national debt wouldn't have grown as much.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 11:23 amNo they didn’t. Tax cuts took effect in 2018.

Next, you're going to tell me that the tax cuts paid for themselves because resulting economic growth increased tax revenues more than the tax cuts decreased them. While that is possible, I don't think it happened in this instance.

No, but not having the tax cuts would have cut into economic growth, and wouldn’t equal a corresponding percent increase in revenue. The tax cuts are a drop in the bucket to the #1 problem by far which is spending.
