You know, I have got to say that I am one that was frankly surprised that the stock market went up after Trump got elected.

I mean, the day after the election people investing in the stock market saw the the United States had just elected an emotionally immature and unstable nut job as President. WHY would they think that meant they should be optimistic about the future?

I honestly expected the stock market to plunge at THAT point. But it didn't. It rose. OK. I was wrong.

But I still wonder. So now they're starting to realize that we have a 70 year old, badly behaved, thoroughly dishonest child as President of the United States. Did they not realize that in November?

I mean, I was glad that they didn't because I'm in the stock market. But why on EARTH did they ever think that Donald Trump being elected portended well for the future?

A pro-business platform would be my guess. I'm wondering what Obama did to instill confidence.

You have proven to be incapable of understanding the reasons.
If you understand the many things that influence the economy, and understand the things the Obama Administration refused to do that Trump promised to do, you will clearly see the answer. Like it or not, it involves the velocity of money and banks have a significant role in it.

1. Wall Street and the investor class are objective and not hysterical and can see Trump is a buffoon but isn't a huge danger.
2. Ultimately, the same fraternity is still running the Fed, SEC, Treasury Department, etc. That's arguably more important than who is in the white house.
3. Congress is still being congress, except with a better chance of passing tax cuts.

As far as they're concerned it's smooth sailing, and why shouldn't they see it that way?

Meh, earnings is the mother's milk of the stock market. Bottom line. And it is all about forecasting those earnings which is where human emotion enters into the equation.

I think most of us realized what Trump is but there was no way I was voting for that crooked, corrupt, cheating, lying, thieving skank. Dems would have won if they ran a decent candidate.

And that's where the immediate problem lies: the market is concerned about the fate of tax reform, health reform, and deregulation with Trump tripping over his dick every 30 seconds. If Congress, i.e. the Republicans In it, can figure out a way to right the ship on those points, the market will be fine.
