But I might need her help on a personal, small business against the big bad oppressive government issue. Post partisan Kalm is not above triangulation.... 8-)

Additionally, it’s important to note that the communications industry is one of the largest lobbying groups in US history; internet providers and the telephone companies before them are notorious for spreading wealth across the aisle. Regardless, one party seems more responsive to the industry’s demands.
Everyone who voted for this bill also breathes air but one party seems to be more susceptible to the air they breathe.

This might be the most idiotic article ever.

The only true conservatives, Paul and Amash, are of course not on the list

The vote was on party lines, not on who received money from the communications folks.

The average amount given to Republicans who voted yes is $137,908 over their careers. The average amount given to Democrats who voted no is $131,788. There is not a correlation on money.

Granted, it's for 2015-2016, but looks like Democrats, on the whole, are main beneficiaries of money from companies like Comcast and Time Warner.

If you wanted to see a correlation to money and votes, you could look at this...

This article is about this very subject

https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2017/0 ... ivacy-res/
We took a look at the contributions received by members of the House and Senate from the telecom industry,
Here’s what we found: On the House side, while there wasn’t a huge difference in overall funds received by lawmakers voting for or against the resolution, there was a gap in the Republican vote. GOP lawmakers who voted to quash the rule received an average of $138,000 from the industry over the course of their careers.
The 15 Republicans voting nay? They got just $77,000.
Some Dems were quite popular targets for industry contributions. Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, for instance, who is the second-highest ranking Democrat in the House, has received more than $1.3 million from telecom interests in the course of his long career, more than all but two House members; he received almost $190,000 in the 2016 cycle alone.
Still, he voted against the bill, as did South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn ($968,000 career), California Rep. Anna Eshoo ($864,000) and every other Democrat.
We can’t know if they objected to the bill on its merits, or they wanted to oppose the Republican agenda in all its manifestations, or what other motivations they might have had. Similarly, the yea-voting Republicans might have been on board for the bill because they oppose regulation in most forms, or they wanted to be team players, or for some other reason.
Blackburn has received close to $564,000 from the telecom industry over the course of her House career

Dummy...that difference of ~$6100 PROVES that Democrats only voted no b/c they didn't get paid enough to vote yes.

It's nuanced...i'm surprised Klam didn't catch it. :coffee:

To be fair, it was "I didn't write it, I'm just posting it" Cleetus that started this. He took over from Travis a long time ago with carpet bombing with political articles with very little thought.

Regardless...how do you get legislation passed that virtually no one wants? Spend millions...across the aisle.

It's just a cost of doing business.

Instead of being embarrassed for these Republican Politicians you're doing what exactly..?
You're apologizing for them with excuses (it's called apologetics, Catholics have mastered this)

Honestly
I hope you're not suggesting that lobby money had NOTHING to do with the outcome..?

:coffee:

and I also hope you're not suggesting that these politicians voted on this simply because they were told to so
Because it sounds like that's what you're suggesting

Here's my obligatory "they all do it":

This time it was the GOP

Let's not pretend they're the only ones who vote in lockstep for bad ideas

There really is no such thing as a true conservative or true liberal on the hill anymore

I used to be against term limits but now I'm warming to the idea

I think it's a shame ISPs want to do this but when you come right down to it if someone is offering a service they should be able to say that if you want to be able to buy their service you have to agree to certain conditions.

At the same time I don't think this is going to help the Republican Party politically.

John,
You're missing a FUNDAMENTAL point...
Broadband access ceased to be a "Service" when we all paid to build the infrastructure
It is now a public utility as THE PUBLIC paid to build it

Uber is a service
Netflix is a service

Access to water / Access to Electricity / Etc...
and now Broadband

are publicly built and publicly maintained through TAX DOLLARS
Effectively WE the People own them
