I think we'll be finding that Trump's ties with Russia are much deeper than Flynn....this is going to be the least boring administration ever...like a double-feature for half-price with two cartoons and a newsreel included..I already love this year and the fun is just beginning.

"In July 2008, independent of any policy conversations by staff, candidate Obama went to the Middle East and Europe and spoke extensively, one-on-one, about policy with leaders from Kuwait, Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, the West Bank, Israel, France, Germany and Britain. As a candidate, not as a president-elect.

Without thought of violating the Logan Act, Mr. Obama conducted substantive conversations with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Jordan’s King Abdullah, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Israel’s Prime Minister Elud Olmert, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy, Britain’s Prime Minister Gordon Brown, his predecessor Tony Blair and opposition leader David Cameron. In short, in an effort to transparently promote his presidential candidacy, with all manner of topics, candidate Obama flew straight into the Logan Act.

But no one cared. Not one news story. Not one. Why? Because the Logan Act is a non-story; it is a historical anachronism. And Mr. Obama was not a Republican."

Want more? Mr. Logan, who was the focus of the dreaded Logan Act, was subsequently elected as a Senator.

And in case you want to blather out that I am a partisan hack, I supported the Hawaiian elected official who went to Syria and told the truth about that war.

Here's more about your treasured Logan Act: :coffee:

Flynn got the boot because the coverup was worse than the non-crime. He talked to the Russians. He lied to the VP about it. The VP went on national TV and said Flynn didn't talk to the Russians. Illegal leaks came out and provided proof he did. Flynn lied to and embarrassed the VP. Flynn was given the boot.

That was kinda my thinking....if there was anyone who should be discussing sanctions with Russia, it's this guy and a few others.

But the aftermath reminds me of when a child lies about something he didn't need to lie about to begin with and then just keeps lying and making things worse...

*yawn*
Exactly.

There was no national security issue to be seen.

Flynn wasn't honest about his talks, and should be removed for that. End of story.

As far as the Russian angle goes, I don't give a sh1t. The Saudis and many other oppressive, wimmen hatin' countries were openly backing Hillary and not one Lib gave a crap. Some of the clowns in the British government were, during the election, openly calling for a ban that would not allow Trump to come to their country (a travel ban  ) and yet we heard not one word of condemnation regarding election influence of foreign countries from the Left. :dunce:

Russian oppressive government and leaders = bad = sanctions
Saudi oppressive government and leaders = OK = billions of dollars of arms sales and oil

Russia sends troops into neighboring historically Russian Crimea territory (where they had a naval base) after the West helps oust democratically elected Ukraine president = bad and sanctions

Saudis send troops into neighboring Bahrain (where we have a naval base) to crush a majority uprising against a non-elected minority oppressive government = OK and billions of trade

Russia helps maintain Syrian democratically elected, leader = bad and sanctions
Saudis helps democratically ousted Yemen leader = OK and assistance to continue civil war

Assad uses barrel bombs to bomb civilians = bad, sanctions, attempts to remove him from power, and loud US pronouncements, attempting to paint a picture of us leading a world united against the evil of barrel bombs
King Salman uses barrel bombs to bomb civilians = US continued support, and the statement that the US has not signed off on the agreement about limiting barrel bombs so that we do not fall under those guidelines

Russian bomb hospitals = bad, intentional, inhumane Russian tactics = sanctions
US bombs hospital in Afghanistan = mistake
Saudis bomb hospitals, while US has people in the Saudi operations center helping to identify bombing targets = "Well, we only help them pick out targets, we do not actually prioritize those targets"

Seriously, you can't make this stuff up.

JFC, the hysteria and hypocrisy about Russia has got to stop.

The thing was that he was a private citizen at the time and apparently the communications sounded like he was negotiating with the Russians. You can't do that and you certainly shouldn't lie about it when confronted. He had to know that his calls were being monitored.

OF COURSE that is the difference.

That's what makes it so funny.

Russian people? Those Russians killed millions of innocent people, including the systematic purging of certain groups, 70 or so years ago. Fvck 'em and their leaders...they are evil and can't be changed.

German people? Those Germans launched TWO world wars and killed millions of people, including the systematic purging of certain groups, 70 to 100 years ago. They are our bestest friends.

There is no reason to continue to keep our supposed allies as allies and to keep our old foes as foes.

Things change. Time to stop operating in the past.

Flynn wasn't given the boot because he lied to Pence.

The White House knew about these phone calls back in January and didn't do anything about it.

If it was simply "Flynn lied to Pence. He must go".... he would have been out then. :coffee:
