It's a start but let's see some actions.

Didn't Clinton sign something with the ME countries? Or was that Carter? Or am I making that up?
Are you thinking of Carter and the Camp David accords? Clinton tried but Arafat walked away from a deal. That's why Trump has cut the Palestinians out. They don't negotiate in good faith so he's going to isolate them by peeling off their "friends".

That must be it. I knew there was something in the past but couldn't remember and wasn't going to look it up at the moment.

It's a Sunni vs Shia divide. Iranian supported countries vs. Saudi Arabian supporter countries.

I doubt any country where the ruling party is Shia signs off on this.

Probably true but does it lessen the accomplishment?

I think it remains to be seen. I don't think it has accomplished much at all yet. Similar to his North Korea "deal."

This does put a lot of pressure on Iran. If that pressure makes them moderate and gets them out of their interference across the Middle East, it would obviously be a gigantic accomplishment. I seriously doubt that will happen, though.

I think it hardens the divide that currently exists between the Saudi sphere and the Iranian sphere. I think the chances are higher than Iran and its allies escalate than deescalate. But, we'll see.

Isn't that kinda a hollow statement? Other than Iran, isn't Iraq the only country in the middle east with a Shia-led ruling party? You could have every other country in the middle east sign off on this and you'd be technically still correct, but would that matter?

ok, garyjohnson. where's aleppo?

you're forgetting syria... which has been kinda a big deal for the past few years in regards to middle east peace. do you disagree?

it's only replaced iraq as the proxy war in the middle east.

assad is alawhite and aligned with shia and iran. the shias in iran support assad.

the us has been backing sunni militants. sunnis are a majority, but the government of syria is ruled by shias.

but, yeah. the sunni-shia divide doesn't matter much in regard to middle east relations. carry on.

Wow, is that what gaslighting looks like? Again, the vast majority of the Middle East is sunni-led governments, other than Iran. Even if we concede Syria (which I'd argue is more of an opportunism for Iran - alawhites and more traditional shias aren't exactly buddies most of the time due to significant theological differences, and Assad has never really played up the shia part of his government - he's gone to great lengths to keep his government secular - heck, the current civil war was far more a result of his despotic and increasing tyrannical regime than it was some theological divide), then you have Iran and one failed nation state in Syria. Again, the vast majority of the Middle East is sunni-led governments - peace with Israel from those governments could be very achievable in light of the recent shifts in the figurative sand.

Didn't have time to wade back through here to find the Military Industrial Complex debate...

But, this kind of thing is done by defense lobbyists and other civilians and *not* military brass.

Don't tell that to the Arab nations that are normalizing diplomatic relations with Israel.

There is truth to that. There is also a whole lot of stupidity by people that blindly support Trump. Can we call that TSS - Trump Swallower Syndrome - or something similar?

There’s always those people. On both sides. Just like those that would have blown Obama at noon on Main Street, despite his failings and flaws. Literally every Trump “supporter” I know plugs their nose and supports the policies, not the man.

Have you read BDanKlebiterKK's posts? If it's negative about Trump or a Conk it's a lie, smear, fake news. If it's positive about Trump or negative about a Donk it's the gospel truth.
