Why the hell would she pick anyone who wasn't vanilla?
She already has Fauxcahontas and Bernie shilling for her so why would she need to name one of them as her VP pick?

The takes I heard on it last night were:
1) Sanders fans will not like this but her criteria had more to do with picking someone who is prepared to be President if necessary than picking someone to make the far left of her party happy. In discussing that the talking heads showed Kaine's experience and he does actually have a more impressive resume in that regard than either of the major party candidates. If you were just filling a job and were interested in who is best qualified by experience you would probably hire Kaine over Clinton or Trump for the job of President. I'm guessing she figures the far left of her party will come along and is counting on Sanders to help with that.
2) Several of the other top candidates are Senators in States with Republican governors so that if she picked them a Democrat in the Senate would be replaced by a Republican via appointment. Clinton's Democrat buddy is governor of Virginia so tabbing Kaine won't hurt the Democrats in that regard.
