Clarence Thomas stepping down?

Justice Clarence Thomas, a reliable conservative vote on the Supreme Court, is mulling retirement after the presidential election, according to court watchers.
His retirement would have a substantial impact on control of the court. The next president is expected to immediately replace the seat opened by the death of conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, providing a one-vote edge in the court that is currently divided 4-4.
And, conservatives fear, that could switch to a 7-2 majority if Republican Justice Anthony Kennedy, already a swing vote, retires. He will be 80 next year.
We recently reported that if Clinton wins the presidency, her majority liberal court could stay in power at least until 2050.
Great job, Trump-voting jackasses. You've assured that Hilldog will remake the court with more Sonia Sotomayors and Ruth Bader Ginsbergs.

I'm not a Trump fan but instead I'm in the #neverHillary crowd. The problem is which of the village idiots in the Republican Party would've beaten Hillary? We were screwed from the start. At least Trump will have the balls to go after her on all the corruption from her and Bill. No one else would've been able or willing to do it.

The GOP was already doing that by aligning itself with the Tea Party and allowing them to act like children when it came to governance.

I don't think they shy away from the job as much as they shy away from the political parties and the years of submission to the party machine in order to have a shot at the job.

I obviously didn't vote in the Republican primaries to discard a number of nominees that would have been favored to beat Hillary in order to pick one who has always been "favored" to lose to her.
One of the stupidest things I noted during the Republican primaries is the fact that Republican primary voters looked at Trump as the one with the best chance to win the general election. That was always completely contradicted by the polling of various Republican candidates vs. Clinton. A critical mass of Republican primary voters was totally out of touch with reality.

The disconnect between who Republican voters think their strongest nominee is and who their strongest nominee actually is (probably Rubio) is striking. And, it's yet more evidence that (1) voters believe what they want to believe, facts be damned, and (2) voters aren't strategic in the way that members of the permanent political class are.
I've said it before and I've said it again: I'm sure there are people who voted for Trump during the Republican primary who are not stupid in terms of measurable IQ. But voting for Trump in the Republican primaries was a stupid thing to do. Nobody who TRUELY didn't want HIllary to be President and who had ANY clue would have done that because they contributed to a "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" move by the Republican primary electorate.
It's not impossible for Trump to win. But going in voting for Trump was definitely voting to lower the probability of keeping Hillary out of the White House.
Plus beyond that the guy has no business being President. Even without Hillary in the picture voting for Trump was a stupid thing to do.

A lot of polls said we were going to have President Romney too.
Trump sucks but there were no candidates that were going to beat Hillary.

When were these polls saying Romney was going to win? I don't remember them. Certainly not anywhere near the election. Romney ran a garbage campaign and never really picked up any traction with voters. That doesn't mean someone like Kasich or Christie will.
Also, consider this...
Hillary has a huge negative rating, and she's pretty much only matched by Trump. Hillary is very much beatable, but there's no chance with Trump being the nominee. Hopefully the RNC will change the rules to force a brokered convention so this doofus won't get the nomination.
