If they developed their cuteness just prior to humans deciding to protect them (which would be about 50 years ago) then you might be on to something there

given that modern pandas are in the fossil record in west central China as far back as 600,000 years ago I'd say that isn't the case

Plus, anyone who knows anything about China is that the way to get yourself eaten there is to be conspicuous - they'll pop a tube right in your gall bladder if they think you're cute
