Well this admin has been insistent all along that they are the answer to terrorism. Their entire foreign policy/national security platform in the 2012 election was "Bin Laden is dead and Al Qaeda is on the run"

Backing away from this snowjob now would be a tacit admission that they have been wrong all along on national security, so I see nothing surprising that the White House would insist that all's well.

And why not? Heck, there are still plenty of Jons out there who not only buy this, but would also be horrified... HORRIFIED I tell you if some journo asked Obama in the next few weeks if he felt he had made any mistakes in natsec or foreign policy
