Why..?
Get this,
because Solar Panels suck up all the suns energy - shortening the life of the sun
Kill plant life by taking all the suns power causing drought
and Solar Panels cause cancer

Jane Mann, a retired science teacher, said she was concerned the panels would prevent plants in the area from photosynthesizing, stopping them from growing.
That's gotta be the scariest part of this right here.

Yes. We can see what happened to you with the lack of photosynthesis.

Well, there are reports of a couple of people saying some ridiculous things. It doesn't mean those contentions played a role in the council's decision. Could've been some completely different reason for the decision they made.

Well...stretching really far here...technically...if you build something that casts shade it's going to reduce photosynthesis among the plants that get the shade that wouldn't otherwise be there.

Ok. So you have this happy little plant living in the sunshine, at least during most of the day. You build a solar panel and now it's in the shade most of the day. Do you not cut photosynthesis? Poor little plant.

I didn't see where any of the elected officials made the stupid comments, they came from the public (and we know how smart the public is - see Obama election and re-election). One person commented about loss of property value which would be a legitimate concern especially when it comes to a rezoning request.

Let's worry about gettting rid of creationist politicians before we worry about these people. Evolutionary biology is much more relevant and important to society than physics as we all know.

This is almost as odd as the NIMBY Liberals around Cape Cod rejecting an off shore wind farm.

We live in a world where it is just a matter of course that billions of human beings- a majority of them - believe in ghosts/angels/devils - even people claiming to be scientifically minded believe in the white Santa in the sky who will smite them if they are bad
We all pick and choose our level of stupidity and none of us can throw stones - we all start well above the ground floor in the building called Willful Ignorance

Maybe he was concerned about a potential patch of dead grass under the panels? I dunno. I'm at a loss.

If that is what they are worried about, then all new buildings, light poles, bridges, etc... should be rejected. That isn't what they are saying. They can't be saying that. hell, you stand up long enough during the day and your SHADOW will impact it.
I haven't read this, but I have to assume these
Pig Farmers are thinking the solar panels will take the sun AWAY from plants that aren't in the shade. They can't be upset over shade. That's just dumb.

Not surprised at all. Bunch of political crap being thrown out there. If Reps supported solar panels, some Dem would have thrown this out. I just don't vote Rep or Dem anymore.

During the Woodland Town Council meeting, one local man, Bobby Mann, said solar farms would suck up all the energy from the sun and businesses would not go to Woodland, the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald reported.
Jane Mann, a retired science teacher, said she was concerned the panels would prevent plants in the area from photosynthesizing, stopping them from growing.
The Manns shouldn't have this much power in their town. That kind of thinking is dangerous.

My solar panels are on my roof, as are all the solar panels in my neighborhood/town.

Not defending anything those folks did in N.C., but there are plenty of solar panel fields that are installed at the ground level. Obviously not in developments, but they certainly do exist.

Of course. I think that is understood by most, besides JSO.

What power do they have? They're not elected officials. They are simply citizens exercising their right to speak their opinion, albeit ill-informed opinion, at a public meeting.

I think it's obvious that the public has considerable power in that town if they could voice such stupid opinions based in..I don't know what.

Put in some plants that like shade.
