Kim Davis will be jailed on contempt charges until she agrees to issue same-sex marriage licenses
Kim Davis, the defiant Kentucky county clerk, was found in contempt of court and taken into federal custody.
U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning ordered Davis, the Rowan County clerk, to be jailed on the contempt charges until she agrees to comply with multiple court orders to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
The judge ordered her held indefinitely because he did not believe fines would be enough to compel her to follow the law.
Her office refused to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple as recently as Thursday morning, before Davis and her staff closed the office made the half-hour trip from Morehead to Ashland.

She asked for it. From what I've read. She's been married multiple times. She ain't got no legs to stand on morally. And then the fact it's her job. She should have been fired first. But its a gov't job, so that won't/can't happen.

Exactly. A gov't position isn't a place for you to espouse your personal beliefs and hold them over people. What's the rule/law on "firing" her?

Jailed by the son of a former GOP Senator, and a Dubya appointee.
Ironic, huh?

Doesn't matter. She's breaking the law. But what's ironic? That Republicans are upholding the law?

She got elected to her position didn't she? So I'm guessing she can't be fired, only impeached.
Also, the judge really had to jail her instead of fine her, as this is the only way that someone else (actually someone in the judge's office) can restart issuing marriage licenses.

Isn't she a clerk? I can't imagine she's elected.

Correct - fining wouldn't work, because she would still refuse - plus, she has conservatives that are bankrolling her that would pay all her fines.
The others in the office WANT to issue licenses, but were prohibited by her from doing so.

In Kentucky, it is an elected position.

Regardless of her stupidity, I can't get behind jailing someone for something like this. Fire her, suspend her, fine her, whatever...but jail? She's obviously not an immediate threat to people.
Just in general, I think we need to stop sending people to jail for everything and push towards an education/rehabilitation model.

She was jailed because she had big money donors lined up to pay her fine.
She can't be fired.
She can only be impeached, and the bigots in the KY senate supported her - the Senate Majority Leader (GOP) is backing her.
Jailing was the only option in this case.
Jail is HER choice. She could: Follow the law, or resign.

Yup. She brought this on herself.

County clerk refuses to issue marriage license = jail for said clerk
David Petraeus gives classified information to his girlfriend = 2 years probation and $100,000 fine.
Hillary has a private server with classified material and sent emails from said server = no problem. Nothing to see here.
The clerk is a dumbass for refusing to do her job. But what a sad state of our nation that the marriage license is the only one of these 3 things that has resulted in someone sitting in jail.

She's lower on the totem pole.

Yeah, ironic that a donk wouldn't do her job and a conk would. Real ironic.

She could probably get out of jail any time she wants. Just resign and live off of her alimony checks.
Hillary's email misadventures may ultimately cost her a shot at the presidency...

Part of the thing is that the judge didn't have the authority to fire or suspend her because he is not her employer. Since this was a criminal matter, he could fine or jail her. He said that fining her wouldn't do anything for reasons others stated so next thing was jail. If she starts handing out licenses as required by the law (or resigns from her position as someone else mentioned), she can get out of jail
