Jeb on the attack

So Trump has talked about raising taxes on hedge fund manager types and carried interest to get the 1% to pay their fair percentage and Bush uses that in an attack ad. Such tax increases would affect virtually zero Republican voters personally but Jeb's well healed donors might take exception.

Are the foundations of conservative anti-tax sentiment still solid or will Trumpopulism see them crumbling just a bit? Good move by Bush?
Also interesting is that one of the heresies Jeb does call Trump out on is his support for higher taxes on the rich, which … I’m not sure is much of a heresy among Trump’s grassroots fans, to be honest. When you’ve got conservative talk-radio stars shrugging at Obama-esque rhetoric about making hedge-fund managers pay their fair share, you know that Conservatism As We Know It is in flux. (See Ross Douthat for more on Trump’s populist tax pitch to blue-collar righties.) The fact that Bush would hit Trump on taxes in order to prove Trump’s not conservative is ironic in that Jeb’s right on the merits but is inadvertently demonstrating (again) that he and his team aren’t in tune with the mood of his own party’s base. At this point, Trump’s tax heresy is more of a heresy to Bush’s friends in the Republican business class specifically than to the Republican Party generally. Even when he’s on offense, Jeb’s making mistakes that will put him back on defense soon.

I'm confused as to why Trump keeps going after Jeb. Maybe he thinks that's the establishment's pick & in the end would be the stiffest competition. I don't see Bush or any of the establishment candidates having much of a chance right now.

Saws a clip this morning of Jeb lambasting Trump in Spanish. Sounds like Jeb has "the little brown ones" (Poppy Bush's term of affection for Jeb's kids) out in full force.

It must suck to be at the tail end of a dynasty. Ask my generation of Kennedys.

Christie will try to make a splash at the next debate. It's a last ditch effort for him but and he can't sit back with policy talk. Should be entertaining.

Tax the rich is normally a Democratic tactic, so I'm not sure how it will play out here. Bush's attack may appeal to some Republican leaning populists, but I would suggest that many if not most Republicans are worried less about the taxes those at the top pay versus the amount of unnecessary spending done by the government.

I think Jeb is floundering and doing what he has to do to appeal to the base while trying to paint Trump as a centrist that doesn't embrace Republican ideals. :twocents:

The Taxes that Trump is proposing are common-sense ones that should have never been lowered in the first place. The carried interest one in particular is galling.

He will have to close a lane first, but he fired all the people who knew how to do that.

I'm sure he "evolved" on this position like he did on abortion and like Obama did on same-sex marriage.

Right. Let's review her story:

As the highest level diplomat in the USA,

1) She chose to go out of her way to pay for a private server (which i'm sure we actually paid for) instead of using the governments. That makes a lot of sense...if you are trying to be shady.

2) She can't handle two email accounts so she has one created for her, on her own domain instead of using the .gov account which would be created for her...within the security of the US Government IT infrastructure.

3) As the top diplomat, she claims that she never received classified emails. But she's the top dog. She's there for 4 years and never received a classified email? I'm bottom of the barrel, compared to her, I recieved classified emails daily.

4) She also didn't know if she should go to meetings, or if there were any meetings at the White House. She got her information from the radio, like Obama gets all of his from the news.

And she wants to run this country? Are you fucking serious!? She is banking that those who will vote for her either don't care, or ignorant. Either way, she has nothing to offer this country.
